These 'safety groups' need to just drop off the face of the planet. They have absolutely no clue, and mis-represent the statistics to suit their purposes. They tout the number of fatal accidents between cars and rigs, but fail to admit the fact that 68% of the fatal crashes are the fault of the car, not the truck. Where drowsiness is cited as a factor, 94% (yes, 94%) of the time it is the driver of the CAR!
The FMCSA needs to start throwing the true facts into the mix in these court cases instead of letting the safety groups run the show.

I fell asleep at the wheel once because of the dumb arse 14 hour rule. If i would have just been allowed to drive when i wasnt tired, instead of taking a BS break during which i couldnt sleep more than a couple hours, i would not have fallen asleep. Luckily no damage was done.
Seriously, the HOS force me to not drive when im not tired all the time. its ridiculous.zentrucking and rocknroll nik Thank this. -
Rocks Thanks this.

I hear ya on the HOS forcing us to drive tired. Our clocks should stop running when we are loading and unloading, if we could stop our clock then we wouldnt run into this dilemma. I think every driver here would agree on that point. NONE of us drivers want to drive when we're tired, we know what can happen.
And if anybody really thinks that the brokers and companies are going to adhere to these ####amamie new rules and give us the time to drive it there legal.....GUESS AGAIN.
So I guess when I buy log sheets I'll just have to buy 3 months supply for one month instead of two. Because if ya think I'll only drive 8 hours a day.......... -
fact of the matter is any logbook or hours regulation is a violation of our rights
what other industry is told how many hours they can work
i understand why we have them but still come on
as far as "having" to give the dot officer your logbook is taking away your right to the 5th amendment -
Calm down guy's...the ATA won't let 8 hours a day happen. The bottom feeders are having problems getting enough drivers now ( because of ###### pay and practices) but would have REAL problems if 3 hours driving time per day were taken off of oh say a 2,000 truck fleet. Thats a tremendous lot of un-productive downtime for a fleet when you look at the big picture. The ATA and Lahoods relationship appears cozy enough to have him to strongly discourage an 8 hour drive time rule when he passes the bill to the White House. BUT if by hook or crook something strange happens and a 8 hour driving day ever passed......

My thought's on federal safety in a nutshell: The blind leading those that have clear eyesight and get the big picture.
Now these clowns want to take away hours = take away money from drivers. Take take take. Is that all everyone can do is just take, take, take? What do you feds have to offer for a change?truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -

I'm not saying I agree with the HOS, but if they were not there at all there would be allot of very unsafe drivers out there.
