I didn't want to be the first one to say it!!! LOL.

No wonder truckers still get a bad rap. We should find his truck and soak his turbo w/ his own piss bottles! he would enjoy that for a couple hot days this summer:)

.26 cpm, a few hundred bucks take home per week for next couple years dew to tuition ets deductions, pizz bottles, fat smelly basstards, legalized slavery, close quarter manuvering (another twist to legalized slavery) yep its swift at its best. Typical mega carrier. I am working for very small trucking company paper logs taking in after taxes and all deductions between $600.00 to $1400.00 per week running solo. Big beutiful barely restricted truck, after only betwen 1 and 2 years exp. OTR (perfect record). I am not saying this just to gloat, the way swift is and the rest of the mega carriers are, it aint got to be this way dude.

LOVESTOSHIFT: A piece of advice: Jack swift like they jack thousands of new guys every year. Take your CDL over to a better company like Watkins Shepard, Martin, Sneider ets. get in a year of two with them, maintain a perfect ontime pickup and delivery record run like hell, then look for a very small company in your area to run with. You will make more money, every one will call you by your first name, there staff will randomly call you every now and again just to say hi and see if you need anything or they can help you in anyway ets... they will treat you like family and pay you good money. Why you chose Swift, who is the worst training company out there along with crengland, CRST is beyond me. But its never to late to make a change for the better in reguards to your future.

porkchop, you are 29 years of age been trucking 12 years? How you get your CDL at 17?? Even if you did have 12 yrs driving a big rig dont think it matters, the two drivers who hit my truck were seasoned. The guy who backed into me when I was sleeping at truck stop had 7 years experience, the dude who swiped the front of my tractor with his trailer when turning two fast as he pulled out was dew to retire 20+ years felt sorry for old geyser decided to take cash and not call cops on him, hindsight should have though. A dingbats a dingbat, no matter how many years of experience one has, it aint gona remove the ding from the bat.

Ok, so first I'm sorry......it'll be 12 years in 5 days when I turn 30. Does that help you at all? Maybe this will. I got my Class B on my birthday 12 years ago, I got my A class 2 months after I turned 21. Does explaining it do anything for ya?
I totally agree with you when it comes to the minor mishaps in trucking IE those parking lot accidents your were talking about. Yes, a more experienced driver is less likely to do something minor like that, HOWEVER.....not one of us is perfect and I know seasoned drivers that have made one minor error and its cost them a truck or trailer, or cost them their license.
As far as you advice to the rookie, I agree with you again on running for the smaller guys. You usually make more money with them and have more freedom (like I've mentioned), but you also have some worries with them that you don't with large carriers. I basically run however I want as long as I make enough money to satisfy my owner, and myself in the pay department. Some smaller companies or 0/0's don't have the maintaince programs these larger guys do, most don't have the discount at the pumps and discounts on tires n such like the big guys do either. What does that mean? You have to take better care of your truck, just don't kick the tires, but check the air in them. You have the freedom to run how you want, but when they tell you YOU MUST be somewhere at a certain time, do you choose to do it, or wish you had that qualcomm to msg in saying you won't run illegal? Lots of choices in this industry, not every situation fits every person.
As for telling him to quick and go to another large carrier to do his year or 2, isn't that about moronic? He's at a large carrier, has time, money, and effort in with them, why throw all that away? Even if he made the switch, they would retrain him at that carrier, so how is that a good choice for someone new?

I still say he should stick it out at swift and give it his all for a year. After that year he'll start being able to make educated decisions as he sees fit.

From your advice and love for your small company.....how many shut downs you have? 2010 violations? Accidents? tickects? I'm not trying to pick at you, you have a right to your opinion!!!! Keep in mind too, that not EVERY small company is a great one. Try reading the thread on AAX and you'll see even for a 150 truck company there has been more problems then you can shake a stick at.

Is it hard to get hired by Swift if you have any type of felony that is older than 5 years?

    HAHA....

good luck with that...Im NOT running for miles anymore...I leave it up to the "superstars" like you guys too do...

I have done my time running lanes.

while your out pounding the pavement I am keeping your better half company...AND making more money then you are running the road....=)

as I am home everynight and having a life....
Instead of running all over hells half acre too make a buck..

altho from time too time I have jumped in a truck and do the odd lane run...for funzies...

I call it taking a paid vacation

I jump in a truck and do it the "oldschool" way...no fancy computers or trackers telling me how much time I have left...or where I am.

that way I can run further then you can and I have NEVER been busted on my book.

and how do I do it.....

trade secret can't tell you that...sorry:biggrin_25524:
    its called being "book smart"

but I figured you would know that already.......
since you guys have all the answers too everything:)

    have a nice day:biggrin_25519:
