Hey super trucker, I think that is because some people get into this industry for the wrong reason and every little thing rinds them off. You haver to have a love for the road to be able to enjoy this job. Most people come in looking to maker big bucks. Don't get me wrong we all love money thats what make therr world go round. But if you love what you do then you will have no problem getting thru the kinks that comes with the job.... Anybody understand what I'm trying to say?

I agree 100%. When I first went for my a class at 21 i was gone for 12 weeks training and then running solo. I only lasted about 3 week solo before i came home and said otr wasn't for me! I worked local for a couple years and back in 05 I went back over the road and havn't looked back. It took me some years to learn to love the road and all that is has to offer, the good with the bad. Now I love and respect it, I'm not happy unless I'm on the road anymore it seems
Again, keep the posts coming, your view towards swift is a great tool for the rookies looking to get into this industry. Your giving them and even some of us experienced drivers a different view then the normal

Been solo with swift for a month now. So far I am always under a load and running. Last week I needed repairs on my truck. I sttayed in a motel and I shot my dm a message on qualcom about breakdown pay and it was in my next check. Oh and I fond out that If u use cruise control u don't get over speeds going down hills

Just got time to read of of this; am I reading right that if you haven't driven a truck in over 3years, you basically have to re-do it all over again?
Also Swift has a little terminal here in Victoria(Dandenong) Australia.. yes, all the way down here, and I found that quite interesting, at least your having fun with it all, and you will get told about the good eateries on your routes.

That's great, l love too hear from other Swift drivers who just started out. Which terminal are you out of? Howe long did it take you too complete your hours? See l be having questions... Also l found out what you weet talking about with that cruiser control. My mentor has the new 2012 freightliner, it only has 6500.2 miles on it.. This girl is so smooth, and the engine brake really has a sexy purr sound. Sorry l just got love for anything with 18 wheels always have. Being a kid instead of doing the blow your horn symbol to truckers, l would listen for the engine/jake brakess instead, and l would go nuts over it..lol

I drove for a short while before being let go due to DOT reportable accident. So it has been an adjustment for me to sit and not drive. I've never "not worked" for a living so I am having to adjust to my boyfriend paying my bills. I am an "A" personality so I always have to be doing something. Those things work against me in the truck. I keep the truck clean, I prepare our meals, I navigate using the atlas or online using RandMcNally and Goodle Earth, I do the QualCom macros since I know how to do them, that way my boyfriend can be out of the truck taking care of business and I am inside doing the QualCom. Do you have Electronic Logs or Paper? We have paper, this is an older truck, an 07' with 466k miles. We will be getting a newer one, just don't know when yet. I think it is hard on a couple to ride together because it is a small space for moving around. My boyfriend is a big guy and I'm not tiny myself so we end up trying to sleep together but I normally end up going to top bunk so I can sleep restfully, or as restfully as I can. I am 52 and have been single a long time. I think my experience as a rider will be different then your girlfriends as you guys are young. Do you support her already? Or does she work? Update: A major turn around just occuried with my training. So I'm ready to finally head east to drop a load in Boson, Ma. Until l received a early morning phone call from my DM saying that l have to get off the truck Now!... Scarred that l may lose my job and be stuck in Washington, which is way North from my California home, I asked what was going on. They were acting like it was a secret, and l was left in the dark not knowing why l have to leave. I even asked the mentor what was going on, still no answers. On our way to the Sumner terminal he was driving like a men in a los angeles pursuit. He asked me like five times if l called and made a complaint (which l didn't). Feeling uncomfortable and confused, l made one last attempt to see what the heck was happening. Called my DM again and just straight out asked if l was terminated. Finding out that l was still employed I breathed a sight of relief, but still confused. Well I'm here at the terminal with all my runaway clothes, and l come to find out that my mentor was being suspended for twenty days for failure to report an accident he had inside a terminal truck wash. I remember going thru a truck wash, however l don't remember him hitting anything. Well now my training will be prolonged because they have to find another mentor for me. I talk to other students that claim to have been going thru mentor after mentor, and it makes that 240hrs longer then what it should be. I'm still going to continue with Swift (of course), this is just something I felt like anyone considering swift should know that reporting an accident is a must. The only thing you can hit is the docks. Anything eles is an accident...

There are some good quality trainers in Sumner. I hope you get one. In the mean time, check with Driver Services up there to see if you can knock out your LCQT (Local Close Quarters Training) because Seattle would be an excellent place to do that.
It's also kind of good that you see what happens when you do not follow company policy. You know to not do that yourself.Rattlebunny, Love2shift and scottied67 Thank this.
