I remember a rough outfit in PA, non union. 220 drivers, they hire me. A mutt.. call it 221.

6 months later Im top 15. They fire people so fast.... The top ten will be there until they die essentially...

WHAT FOOD DELIVERY JOB APPROACHES THESE WAGES AND BENEFITS?

Ok, Dominoes probably pays better (i hear well over $2000 per week) and the benefits are likely superior to UPS, but it's teams.

    But what other foodservice company?

I don't think @Russian Rabbit is at top scale yet, though.

I'm not saying that ups isn't a top tier trucking job because it is all I'm saying is that foodservice has a place in the section also if you don't mind hard work you can make a very good living doing it in my opinion that's all I'm saying I have respect for Russian and if it wasn't starting over on the extra board I might think about ups but where I'm at right now is fine for me.
I'm sorry if I have ruffled any feathers

The point i was trying to make is that yes, some food jobs might pay more-----but what do you have to do to make it? i sit around at docks quite a bit, while the warehouse people take the load off with forklifts. We don't have that many inside deliveries anymore (thanks to losing staples account). But even when we did, it was a lot easier than food---maybe max 10 boxes of paper and done. It's by and large dock stops.

Now, we still do some inside deliveries and residentials, but usually only one piece---say a computer or a printer or shelf. Still much easier than 50 or more cases of food.

Now, if some people LIKE the excercise of food delivery(and i'm not opposed to SOME physical work) then fine. However, i don't think balancing 250+lbs on a handtruck and moving it down(or up) a whole flight of stairs into the customer's basement is good exercise and , in fact possibly harmful to you.

And yes, i've done plenty of food AND BEVERAGE delivery so i know the i difference between it and LTL.

No feathers ruffled. I was just pointing out he's not topped-out yet. Most foodservice jobs will pay way better starting out than UPS Freight (and Package Feeders), but over time drivers there are awarded for their patience.

Now, i want to address this notion:

Yes, theoretically this is generally true. HOWEVER, based on my experiences and observations when involved with union companies (Autotruck, UPS, NEMF etc.) you might very well be surprised how many top guys do not want to:

    a) work weekends
    b) go on longer hauls
    c) want overtime
    d) want certain routes.

So with UPS, i could not bid for the first 4 1/2 months i was there BUT after that i was able to get a more suburban-type route. For some reason, no one else wanted it(everyone was happy where they were at?). It was mostly dock stops and really not a bad route if you don't mind going to the same places everyday.

With autotruck, i was able to get a 2700+ mile run only my 3 week with the company. i think at the time they had 700 hundred or so drivers and i was like 690 on the board or something. Not everyone wants the long cross-country runs.

And weekends? In a lot of cases the top guys do not want this.

All of this means more money for the lower people on the list.

A lot of it depends on your terminal.
