Yeah.. you are absolutely right.. there are drivers, werner drivers out there who are not making good money... werner is performanced based.. theh have the loads to keep you busy... but, you do need to work and manage your hours wisely.. you have to pick up and deliver on time...

I did good in training and got on a good specialized dedicated account after training.. it took about a week or two for me to get the hang of it and for my dispatcher to know how I roll... from the time I start my 14 hour clock.. I rjn hard.. I only take my mandatory 1/2 break with kn my first 8 hours... if I have to I will roll in to a rest area or truck stop for a restroom break.. but, I dont dilly dally around..

It is easier to make good money on a dedicated account than OTR.. I can use my full drive time and hours cause I am home every weekend to reset my clocks....

I average about 2300 miles a week.. and get .34cpm loaded or deadhead... then I get on time delivery bonus, safety bonus and stop pay on top of that...

The maint thing, is I do pretty much the same runs every week so I have gotten better at running them, and I have gotten a lot faster at in-gateing and out gating, as well as much faster and dropping and hooking..

When I first started I wasnt as fast at that stuff and I wasted sometime in truck stops... now, it is in and out cause I realize that the time I don't waste can add up to one more run and more money...

2300 miles at 34 cpm is $782. How much are the bonuses that you get another $400-$800 on top of that weekly?

Lol... that is so funny... yes I do live in Omaha.. but I am just a rookie truck driver who after a crazy expeience pulling flatbed for an O/O after getting my license in 2009 took some time away... I was on here back then as LavenderTrucker...

When I returned to trucking in oct of 2013I went with a small family owned company.... was not happy at all there.. I posted about how I felt lucky to get on with them back in October.

    I started with werner January 1st 2914..

    Why did I choose werner...

Well, the experienced driver they put me with for my refresher had his cdl pulled by his doctor for mental reason... but, they still had him in a truck and they put me with him to train.. the first week was not bad, but it progressively got worse... he would have bizaro manic fits... he would go from waco temper tantrums, where he was punching the walls of the truck, yelling and screaming to "hey theres a waffle house, pull in I will by you breakfast"

The company knew he was off balance, as just prior to hiring me is when he had an episode that lead to the police beong called to the truck stop and having him hospitalized and towed the truck and trailer..

The owed the company thousands of dollars, they kept him running and put me with him to recoup their loses... I did not know this till after I was on the truck with him...

We picked up a load in Oklahoma going to South Dakota... I was driving and he went off the deepend.. was in the passenger seat yelling and scream about all the #### he has seen as a driver... decapitated driver, driver shot in his truck, bodies all over the interstate, dead drivers in rest area bathrooms. On and on he went for 5 non stop straight hours as I a rookie drove an over loaded trailer with bald tires through rush hour traffuc...

When we got to the recievers I was spent and frazzled and did not know what to do... there was a werner truck there and I got out and went to talk them... they let me in the truck cause it was cold out.. and I was a nervous wreck and could barely keep it together I told them my situation... they were so kind, so normal and the truck was so clean.. unlike the truck I was I with a driver who was a mental case and hadnt showered in three weeks...

They were so nice and normal and I did cry.. I was frazzled from my experience and so stressed I could not think straight... they talked to me and gave me good advice. Told me I needed to get off that truck, that I had two months experience and a clean CDL.. if I stayed I could mark up my CDL.. they even asked if I had money and offered me some if I needed.. it was a trainer and his student. ? The trainer gave me his number..

Well, I got off the truck at a truck stop in Sioux City.. exit 143... I called the company and told them I had gotten off the truck couldnt and wouldn't put up with him anymore.. I called werner as I waited for my brother to come pick me up..

The next day the company called, they had fired him and asked if I wojld come back as a solo driver.. I did.. it lasted a month.. I quit, I returned the truck and came to werner..

    Where I am very happy...

I do understand the predicament the small company was in.. I understand them needing to get their money back.. but it was way to over the top and way to much for a rookie to deal with..

2300 miles is what the base miles for my account is...minimum miles they have to give me... with good planning and time management I can get a few extra runs in.. last week I ran 2764 miles, then I get stop pay, which I usually have 3 a day... so that is. $75 a day, then I get $100 a week for on time deliveries... if I delivered all my loads on time and a safety and performance bonus... I dont know how that is calculated... but on this paycheck this week it was $330... but I did great on mpg last week. 8.1mpg that is the best I have ever done..

Wow that is quite a story Bedomrider. Why didn't you like driving solo for the small family owned company?

Well.. witb the small company.. I would have a load that delivered Monday mornings in Lareado or Laporte TX.. then they wojld find loads to get me ack to iowa to pick up the load for Monday.. well, they were not always able to do that and so there was a lot of sitting waiting...
I really didnt like running two log books and running arou d scales.. they wojld pay any ticket I got, so they said.. but, my CDL was and still is clean.. I never got paid when I was suppose to.. it would be days late and always wrong.. short always never over...
Tbey were nice people.. just not what I wanted and not good for rookie... all their other drivers, about 6 of them had years of experience... they knew all sorts of little hiways and back roads around the scale houses..

Werner office person. You made just one mistake. You put in your location. better luck next time.

Having worked for both Werner and USX. Between the 2 USX is superior. But don't listen to me, find out for yourself. :biggrin_25525:

So.. there are no truck drivers who live Iive in Omaha NE... and technically, I live in Bellevue Ne, which is a smaller city just south of Omaha... I just put Omaha cause it js bigger and more know.. I know there is at least one other Truck driver who lives in Bellevue NE, works for KB, lives just around the corner from me.. havent met him or her but see his truck parked outside his house when he is home...

It Iis obvious to me you dont know what you are talking about..

I am on a dedicated and run loads from Schuyler NE to the rail yards in Kansas City and Edgerton KS... I often take my10 hour at the Sapp Bros in Percival Iowa.. or the loves in St. Joseph, exit 44 off of I 29... occasionally I take it at the scalehouse in schuyler if my Nor Am load is not ready...

So let me know when you are rolling along the I 29 between Council Bluffs IA and Kansas Cith and we can have coffee and yoj can amuse me with your conspiracy therories and alien abduction stories...
