In my first year with my own authority, I averaged $20,000/month working three weeks a month, running 100% brokered flatbed freight. My total miles including deadhead was 109,000, with an average fuel economy of 7.4 mpg. I rarely accept loads requiring a tarp so a 10% improvement could be made if I see fit.
I know there are many Drivers who are doing even better, so don't be discouraged by some of what you hear. Education is very costly and must be paid for by someone, therefore temporarily leasing on could possibly be a great source of valuable education for anyone just starting out.
