It is really great having your dog with you on the road. Not only makes a good companion but a great security guard.:grommit:

Regarding food and water. I keep water down for my dog. I got a "No Spill Bowl" at a PetSmart. Works like a charm...that is, until he splashes water all over the place while he's drinking it. Food is kept in one of those Rubbermaid cereal containers with the extra smaller lid that you can pour from. I refill that container from the big bag and store the big bag (40-lb) in the side box on the passenger side. I keep the cereal container behind the passenger seat. Easy to reach when it's time to eat. I also keep two 3-liter water jugs behind that seat. Always enough for both of us.

    I have a 25-lb Basenji.

Yeah, and you can just refill the jugs at the truck stop. I also recommend metronightazole. Not sure if that's how you spell it but that's how you pronounce it. You can get it from your vet. If your dog has "hershey's" this will fix them almost immediately! This was such a god send when we were driving. You can't always whip the truck off the road when the dog has an emergency. They tend to get into things at the truck stops and rest stops, like food that drivers wing out the window! Pet supermarkets and Pet smarts are easy to get your rig into. Their are quite a few right off the interstates visible from the highway. We also used to mark in our truck stop guide wherever we saw Vet clinics. That way if we ever had an emergency we would know where they were in each state.
