You are lucky to have been hired on by Roehl. Haven't heard too many bad things about them.

Good luck and keep the shiny side up, driver! :smt023

as someone who has only dabbled in the driving world so far. I drove in the Army, and a little back in the 90's with an old Pete and flatbed, then recently a nice '01 KW dump truck.

for those who think they wish they would have.............

i did what everyone said I should, rather then what I wanted. went and got a degree in elec design, worked in it for 10 years and got laid off. went and nearly finished another degree in mechanical design. got back on track sitting in a cubie making all the money right?

there is no such thing as an 8 hour day anymore, there is no such thing as people appreciating what you do, no such thing as security because you have an education. today I have to attend a meeting to tell me what i did wrong this month because I completed a project to a higher standard then expected. this is the "we need to justify cutting heads" game.
reason I'm on this site is because trucking is what I wanted to do my whole life. when I was younger I had too many tickets to even be considered by a company. now days I'm clean as a whistle. when they drop the hammer this time I'm going driving. It will be a big pay cut but now days my kids are grown, my cars are paid for and I don't have a lot of expensive habits. time to do something I want to try for awhile anyway.

just wanted to give you guys a prospective "from the other side". It may seem all roses in the corporate world but if I were you I wouldn't be too quick to jump this way. notice all these drivers here helping each other out? that does not happen in corp world.

I feel the same way. When I drove, I hated it, particularly the 4-wheelers; now I miss it. The only thing keeping me from jumping back in a cab is my dang sugar, which, once my doctor comes back from vacation, I should be able to get back in line.

So I'm hoping after the first of the year I'll be back on the road and hatin' it!

    last year was 70K +.
difference between design and engineering is very little at most companies. engineer does more checking of our work to ensure we have done things correctly. we generally do calculations, most of the drawings, and at some places go out and build the initial prototype. the engineer will then check our work and ok it. they bear the overall responsibility of it although we are not without responsibility, we bear less.

the degrees I have are assoc plus classes rather then bachelors or more. overall it has been a good ride and was great when my kids were young. now days the headaches are more then the rewards. everyone wants you to work 10+ hour days, weekends, holidays, and give up your vacations. Don't forget if you don't want to there is some kid fresh out of college who will, and he'll do it for less $.

Yeh, once you start driving, it's hard to go back to a regular home every nite job. The constant traveling and rolling down the highway gets in your blood.
