Freedom this, freedom that. Freedom freedom freedom blah blah blah...

Say it, you want freedom to break the law when it's convenient for you.

i sense jealousy in your statement.

13 years. 40 log checks. only 2 of which were actually done by the scale. 10 in the past year. not one violation. so i must not be breaking the law.

Making it look good on paper doesnt mean your truly legal.

I hope elogs gets mandated. Get rid of the old cry babys that are afraid of technology.

A mandate would level the playing field.

Eliminate that percentage of the available truck pool that can't legally move a given load. Possibly the rates will go up.

A mandate also has the potential to bankrupt some of the smaller carriers and O/O's. Not just the removal of the option to run illegally but the cost factor that is involved with installing EOBR's. Not everyone who runs on paper is illegal, just like not everyone who runs with EOBR's is legal. I said it before and I'll say it again: a EOBR is NOT a fail safe. If a driver wants to run illegal, a EOBR isn't going to stop them. They'll just figure out ways to cheat it.

The equipment isn't going to make a darn bit of difference of whether or not a driver is legal. It's a choice the driver makes. If you want to remain in compliance, get rid of the driver. Adding a EOBR to their truck won't do anything except polish a turd.

Have you priced the equipment and monthly costs.

It's a added expense that isn't needed. A EOBR mandate will NOT resolve the problem at hand. The removal of the driver is the only solution. It's not that hard to run legal on paper. We're truck drivers, not rocket scientists.

This is my whole point when other drivers ask me about elogs. If drivers would "log it as you do it" on the paper log (and don't change it!) it is the SAME thing as an elog would do. All an elog does is automate the process.

Point blank....Drivers are NOT following the HOS regulations if you constantly rewrite and change your paper log.

I don't see why people push elogs so much. They aren't the solution to a choice the driver makes. A driver that runs illegally on paper will do so with a elog. It isn't that hard to pull a fuse.

Elogs are not a solution to a driver running illegally. Its not about control.... its not about "big brother". Its all about automating an old way of logging the drivers time. The systems record on the "log" each duty status change, location, time, and total miles. All the driver has to do is push a button. You can throw away your ruler and pen!
