I don't know if this has been covered here or not, but typically carriers go back 3 years for moving violations. On safety sensitive stuff, like hauling turnpike tandems, a 5 and 7 year history comes into play. 10 years for criminal history, including DWI - DWAI.
I believe that points expire in 18 months, but the insurance companies can use it to determine rates for a 3 year window.
Your lifetime driving history, which some carriers pull, is more of a personality indicator. That's what they are doing when they scrutinize it.
Now I don't know if this has changed since 2006 when I transferred from NY to FL for a CDL, but the ID# did change, but it is still tied in with my SS# and birth certificate. When I go back next month, I'll be curious to see what happens when I switch it back.

Hi truckers. My first post! I think I might have the itch to join your ranks. Never driven a T/T. I have been reading a lot here, and have yet to talk myself out of it. I wanted to first see what you all thought of my record and hiring prospects, before I invest too much into this idea.
Bottom line: flawless driving record for the past 13 years (spanning three states if that matters). No criminal record of any kind. Safety matters to me. 34 years old. Solid career history.
But as I started recalling my teenage years, I see I could have done better. In defense, being a teenager = suffering from brain damage, by definition! (Only half-kidding.) I guess there's nothing to hide since employers will have the record...
Exhibit A) I was in a highway accident at 16. Nobody else involved. Cop said he understood is was just inexperience, wrote me up for 'improper driving', and I went to safety school.
B) Age 18, speeding ticket on highway. Paid it, no school.
C) Age 19, 'Failure to obey a sign' ticket for making a left at a restricted time, paid it, no school.
D) Age 20?, speeding ticket on highway. I think they gave me 'Reckless' or 'Careless' for 25 over. Suspended for 30 days. (I lived out of state from where it happened so it didn't really affect me.) I mailed them a check to reinstate, and held a license there years later, so all that was settled back then. pretty sure no school.
Bonus E) Just as a purely hypothetical worst case scenario, let's say I was pulled over one other time for speeding at 18, but never received a ticket in the mail as promised.
I've been reading that they typically only go 10 years back, and will be happy to believe that. How tough are the early years judged by the best carriers? With competition tight ... how common are applicants with flawless-for-life records?
I see people reporting "No hire for any criminal record ever". Has anyone ever been told "No hire for any accident ever?" -
*Explain Please!! -
So, if you just a regular driver and not with a CDL.....YET, what other than your basic states DMV record can you pull to get ahead of the game and put your duck's in order????
It seem's that a DAC report is for CDL license holders as well as your CSA score is for CDL driver's..............
Posted on this site it say's companies go on three thing's:
A/. MVR B/. DAC REPORT & C/. CSA score.
So is a DAC and CSA score actually available for regular driver's as well???? -
I just went to DMV and got a 10 year record. Unfortunately I have somebody else's speeding ticket on my record from 2003! DMV lady said it takes "a long time" to correct these things. Anyone have any experience (in CA maybe?)?
She also told me that records past 10 years are purged. So if the state doesn't know what happened to me in 1995, how will the DAC? -
Hello Drivers! I am looking to start my career in trucking fairly soon. I always wanted to be a trucker to travel the open road. I have a great job paying 32,000 base salary which is equivalent to $1,077 every two weeks after taxes, child support, and insuarance reimbursment, but its not a career. Being that I have two felonies 2004 and 2010 both P.W.I.D. I know it will be extremly hard. I've been reading up on carolina cargo and it seems like its my only option. I'm willing to take the lesser pay and being on the road for yr or so if It will open other doors in the near future for other companies. Do you guys think other companies would hire after they see that i have the experience with the felonies? I also have not to good driving record. running a red light in 2010 and at fault rear end collison in 2007. lol i know your saying why the H-E-L-L i want to get into trucking with all these negative things to start but its really something I would love to do. thanks in advance

P.s. Dont listen to your local dmv lady they told me I couldnt have my h-6 purged then I went to another dmv and thats how I came to find the man act Unit. Dmv workers always seem like they are so pissed off like they look for reasons to give people a hard time. Good Luck

How long will you have to wait until you can get hired if you have a Mary Jane DUI?
