Tact. The art of telling someone to go to hell in such a way, they look forward to the trip. My issue with him is that he came across as "I'm better than you all, and here's why"

I'm familiar with this forum. I knew coming in that running like this would ruffle the internet truckers and admit that has affected my tone. Sorry for that. With that said there is nothing more holier than thou than an internet trucker. This forum can be insufferable.

Then there's owner operators like myself who think company drivers like yourself are to be pitied working that hard for the man ;-)

I'll compare my numbers to yours any day of the week ;-)

I hate to have to point this out a second time. This is questions for new drivers. Not how scooter jones does it in his own truck on paper logs. Why are you even in this thread?

So what's YOUR question from a new driver? If it's not a password-protected forum, any one of us has a right to comment. I stay out of the heavy haul, tanker, hotshot, and car hauler forums, because I know little or nothing about them. But questions from new drivers? I'll share my knowledge, and gladly help a guy learn how to run harder or more efficiently.

    True.

If you drive for cpm, as the OP does, then the only way to make more money is to "run harder" aka drive more miles. If you are paid hourly it doesn't matter, as long as you are logging drive and on duty time.

If you are paid on percentage then running a lot of miles doesn't matter at all. All that matters is the average revenue generated by the truck per week. This difference increases even more if you are an owner operator. If you pay the fuel and all expenses would you rather run 3500 miles to generate $6000 revenue to the truck or 2500 miles? I know which side of the equation I want to be on.

    I get it.

Starting back in trucking I worked as a company driver at Swift, swinging doors and banging docks. It was all about just as the OP said.

Now I own my truck and pull flatbed, paid on percentage of the line haul. I average about 2000 miles a week, but make more than twice as much money after expenses.

I think the folks that have replied to this thread that might be perceived as naysayers are actually the OPPOSITE. I had the same issues when I first joined this forum and didn't know diddly about how to really work smart and make money. Those folks aren't trying to dissuade the OP and like minded folks, they are trying to get new drivers to open up their minds to the possibilities in this industry if you really want to make some money. Consider getting out of pulling a box, there's more money pulling almost any other trailer. Consider anything but cpm payment. Consider taking the plunge to become an owner operator.

OP is the of the ilk that cheapen the job. Work all those hours and no OT just like a seasonal crop picker
Nothing to brag about,, likely do a 34 hour reset and right back at it like the rest of the 'chipped mongrels"
