I know this sounds like a pretty ignorant question, coming from somebody who has now been in the industry for barely over a year. But I recently contacted a Con-Way recruiter, to inquire about what positions they have available to me, and right off the bat, the first thing the recruiter told me is "well we're a forced dispatch company.....". Everything else she told me about the position sounded like exactly what I was looking for (and yes I've spoken to more than enough recruiters by now, to be able to differentiate between the standard fare recruiter bulls*** and the actual truths they accidentally leak about their company). But I wasn't sure exactly what she meant by "forced dispatch". I've driven for Werner and England as a company driver with both of those. And the way it's always been in my experiences, is I get dispatched a load, and it's stuck on me, pretty much as simple as that. Regardless of whether I make myself unavailable (usually in response to an automated macro sent to me on the qualcomm), or if I'm out of hours available to drive...I've always got loads forced on me, either way. So I'm thinking that maybe "forced dispatch" is just a term I've never heard of before, but that I've been run by all along by the companies I've driven for...? I'm just wondering, if I'm wrong about that, if anybody could perhaps break down for me, exactly what it is.

You have it right on the money. Forced dispatch means you get the load even if you don't like it. Now you can send a message back stating that you cannot meet the timeframes on the load, after which they will reschedule, remove the load, or schedule a relay in.
