You want to train, that's your biz Chuckie. As for the "giant DOT" target, I've been inspected ONCE for hazmat in all the years I've been with Prime. Mostly wanted to see the load locks... easy $100. If you're so worried about the DOT, maybe you should spend more time seeing that your equipment might pass a level I. BTW, yeah I have run across company guys complaining about not enough loads... recently.

Company offers some type of compensation for obtaining hazmat.

    Seems more than fair....

I came from another career where Hazmat wasn't an option, you either carried it or got fired.
Same with using any computer upgrades or GPS useage:
You were trained so you had to use it.
And why would I want to be less trained than others? I'm an old fart but was always top of salary scale, promotions and perks because I had a good attitude.
I retired at 6 figures when many other of my class mates were still in 5 figures and gripin' about it.
Now I'm in trucking and had all my endorsements the day I graduated my CDL Course.
I won't be lighting up the world, but I plan on being the best I can be in this profession.........

AND I plan on keeping the left door closed!

You sound Professional, good to work with guys like you!!
And you're right about the complaining, they'll have 5 companies in 5 years and everybody is wrong except for them.
    SAD really.

I talk to a lot of other prime drivers at shippers and receivers, not one has every said nothing bout sitting round waiting for loads. I don't frequent the truck stops but to fuel and shower and I never sit around 9 times outta 10 I've got a preplan waiting on me.

LOL! Hardly ever- "miles" logged at the terminal don't pay very well.

Hazmat, I guess if you work for a company where you get paid very poorly and or very low miles --i surely can seeing not wanting to pay for Hazmat - cause i doubt you will make much more money anyway.
On the other side of the coin, if you stand to make more money and company pays why not.
If they want you to pull doubles or triples but weren't going to pay more for it ( at an already poor paying CO.) --would you do it ?
Isn't Hazmat a little bit more of a pain in the a.. to a driver ? No tunnels, fines if not properly placarded maybe more DOT checks etc. I dunno ?

Understand this ironpony not this company nor any other goes out of its way to see that its employees make more money. Companies are in business for themselves dont ever forget that. The only person that goes out of their way for my money is me. If people want to train or have haz thats their business not yours and the same if they dont. You are in a forum for drivers and by drivers in a thread where a driver is asking for direction from other drivers. So if you if you cant give folks some advise which puts them the drivers best interest 1st before the companys with out insulting them and imposing your company minded opinion on them while calling them lazy then why dont you put on your big boy pants and go insult some people some where else.

As for haz ive had mine exactly 1yr now. Ive done 5 haz loads in that time. Two of those loads im certain i was reloaded quicker due to having haz. Another two of the 5 ive had im certain i had to wait around (24hrs or so both times)for the haz load to be ready i beleave because i was the only the only haz endorsed driver around to haul it. Where as other drivers who unloaded at the same receiver at the same time as me would have a great load the next day i would be stuck waiting to reload because of my haz.So at times haz as actually hurt me. Which is why im dropping it at next home time. To the newer drivers out there. Prime is a good company but dont let them sell you the bull that your going to make more and get more loads with haz it sometimes works out to be the opposite. Im with the other guy if they have such a demand for haz drivers then more of a pay incentive will work that out.
