Because REO6205 has it pegged. This is comedy. Some of the best laughs are unintended humor. Arm chair FMCSA regulatory interpretations always attract a crowd.

Here at Melton, we had a driver that thought he needed a passport to enter (New) Mexico, kept refusing a load that delivered there, when they asked him why was he refusing! His response was "I don't have a passport" I don't think he's here anymore

There are a lot of people in this country that think New Mexico is a foriegn country. That's why they put "New Mexico USA" on their license plates.

Not me...I'm hiding in the office these days. I do remember that when I first started driving that one of the first things I was taught was how to "massage" a log book. I know that those days are pretty much gone but the same old "pick up hours at midnite" rule still applies.
I've seen guys that couldn't pour water out of a boot if the directions were printed on the heel but all of them
could figure out...eventually...how to do a recap.
Okay, I know I'm spoiled. All of our drivers have been around a while and we don't hire newbies. You guys that have a constant stream of green drivers coming in have my sympathy.

Part of the problem is that dispatch and orientation in many companies cannot answer questions relating to HOS for the drivers. New drivers need more attention for the day to day kind of things. They've got plenty on their plate just driving and finding customers.

    REO6205 Thanks this.

I agree with Cranky! something doesn't add up. 70 hr week/ 8 day rule 70 divided by 8 = 8.75 hrs. drive 8.75 hrs everyday and never reset.
besides the only time I've been questioned about logs paper or elog, was by a company and never for HOS just location crap. If you need time off
do the load and schedule time off or be a big boy and become an O/O.

WHEELS DONT EARN UNLESS THEY TURN

Please.....follow the guidelines of the FMCSA hours of service part 395. Always know how to recap and never drive beyond your available hours unles you are in an emergency situation due to a national catastrophe or some extreme weather event. If you do drive over the 11,14, or 70 hour clock it must be noted on the log with a flag and a description. However, With an e-log, it is possible to run out of hours and then the driver must complete a 10 hour break and or wait until after 00:00 hrs ( which is a new day ) to " pick up " HOS. My experience with both paper and e-logs has often help me challenge a dispatcher who thinks a driver should violate the rules, because the hot load was dispatched late and needs to be delivered early. Even though the driver is limited by his recap as to how far he can legally drive per day. I can usually tell if I am going to be late and that they need to notify the customer or I will. ( Late loads are subject to penalties or late fees )

§ 395.3: Maximum driving time for property-carrying vehicles.

Wheels don't earn nothing.....You ain't earning if the wheels ain't turning!

You can work 8.75 hours per day including pre-trip ,fuel ( 30 min) leaving 8,25 hours to drive. But in the real world, we drive often 10 to 11 hours per shift and log 1/2 hour per day on duty line 4 for an average 11 to 11.5 hours on duty per day. On the 8 th day, you must sit 24 hours....then you will have 11 hours ( picked up by the recap) to start , never having to do a 34!
