Has anybody else noticed an influx of foreign national drivers asking question about axle weights? I can't seem to walk into a truck stop with out being approached by another driver, with an obvious foreign accent, asking if his weights are legal. I don't mind answering their questions, but if they are driving here shouldn't they already know these things?

Perhaps you should worry about becoming a driver instead trolling.
And no, I don't. Axle weights, however, are a pretty important part of this job that every driver should know. My concern is if they don't know those, what else don't they know?Last edited: Jun 10, 2008

Haven't noticed any... where are you driving when asked? up north? by the way there are a lot more "foreign" drivers in the country now.. Cheaper labor to offset the fuel.... -
Yeah, up North. Most of them sound European, like Greek or Czech. It isn't the foreign part that bothers me; its the fact they don't know. I consider axle weights one of the fundamentals. If they get through training and and get their CDL without know this basic information, what other fundamentals are they missing?

Well sorry you do not consider yourself an American... You should be proud of the country you live in.. that's my opinion... Offset price of fuel? I already explained that, math is easy, pay a company less to do the same work a American company would have to charge more to do.. Thus saving the shipper money.. -
I have also been here for 20 years. I am not an American and I don't consider myself to be one, which, by the way, is not a requirement for being here in the USA. I like it here, my life is here in the States. Why do I have to be proud of the country I live in???? There is a whole lot of stuff going on here, that just makes me cringe. If there are more people that give up on the blind patriotism that you see so much of, and question those things that are wrong, maybe this country and this whole world would be a better place. I have never understood the way of thinking a lot of people have here, the "you don't agree with me, get the hell out of my country". How do you think this country was founded, surely not by people who just waived their flags is the same direction the wind was blowing. This country was founded by free thinkers, people with a vision, and it is too #### bad that it is now frowned upon if you don't agree with the masses. Please don't tell me to go home, as we all are entitled to our own opinion.
I don't work for any less than anyone else, actually my job pays very well. It does not save my company money to employ me, I don't get any freebies, I pay my taxes like you all do. For personal reasons I am not an American, I want to be able to go home if I need to, since my mom is not in good health.
Oh, and my company is owned by those #### foreigners too, they understand that you have to pay good, to get good employees. -
Listen, the point of this post isn't political or racial. I am telling you what I have seen the past several weeks. Do I care that these individuals aren't American? No. What I do care about is that they seem to lack knowledge of one of the basic elements of driving. What else are they missing? I can't help it if they were all foreign, that's just what they were. If you want to come and work here, fine, but at least have the knowledge, training, and skills you need to do the job. I used the term "Foreign Nationals" in the subject because they weren't American, it's as simple as that. I haven't been approached by a white boy from West Virginia yet asking about weights. There just seems to be a pattern, that's all. Why must everything turn political?

Axle weight issues are common for many beginning drivers. So expect to see more of it as you further your career.
Schools throw the numbers at them. Then their trainers fail miserably in teaching them squat.
I met an American 'trainer" in Waco, GA. Who was questioning me and another driver about his axle weights. His student was in the bunk asleep.
This guy was so clueless, I wanted to scream. And he was the trainer.
He wound up going back to the shipper for a reload.
