    THIS IS SO TRUE - and when we ask how did you drive two years wihout learning to back the answer is 'I am a highway driver - I don't do deliveries / PU'... I guess they don;t park in teh yard either

    It’s not often you see anyone practising their backing skills. When I first started pulling B-trains I used to get guys looking at me cross eyed wondering why I was working on backing into a spot when a pull-through spot was available.

    Very few people seem to give a #### about being good at their profession. - I suppose they maybe left the rest of their skill set at home until the industry pays them more. Lol.

    You think that's an accident? The megas all pay the ATA to be their mouth piece, they get the rules they want so they get all the new, fresh, cheap, meat, so, .... they can beat each other up on rates and take all the money out of everything. Good way to get rid of all the small carriers. All the while screaming "Driver shortage!!!"
    It's not an accident.

    Nice! I used to have some small orange cones, that folded flat. I would practice in the back of truck stops, waiting for loads or on a 36. I also used to always pick hard single spots at night, just to get better. Believe it or not, people would freak-out at me, for getting out to look or using my work lights.....lol.

    I was even starting to get into backing up the LCV's, or backing the A-Box with a converter hooked up, to a B Box. We have a couple guys who can do it, blows my mind every time.

    Seen this a ton in reefer, Loblaws/Sobeys/Coop all require drop in door, these scabby outfits simply couldn't do it. I think in the end, they had to hire local day cab companies, to meet the highway trucks and put it in the door for them, and pull their empties out ($$$$$$$)

    Honestly, I'm just glad to be done with it all. the 1-2 road test a week is enough for me lol.

    And there will be a day when a pull through isn't available. No worries. Line it up and ease it in.

    New drivers are generally are going to be even more stuck with the meat grinder options, Bison, transx and the like. I don't think it is mandatory just insurance rates will be so ridiculous no smaller company can afford to take on some with less then 3 years.
    When I got my licence at the age of 18, the local trucking company hired me to shunt trailers and help out in the shop. A few years before they had a stretch with some bad wrecks. It didn't matter if they hired someone with no experience or 20 years they were paying the highest insurance rate. This was 25 years ago I'm sure they wouldn't be able to operate like that these days and stay in business.

    Oh they park. They are the ones you see parked on the shoulder of the trans canada a mile past the truckstops.

    Same here. It’s crazy how many guys you see pulling trains though and can’t even back up 6 feet whether it’s at the pump or on the belt not alone back into a parking spot.
