ok. I've been shopping Penske used trucks off and on for almost a year. I've saved my money and found one I can afford.
There are a few equipment rental companies near me that will put me on call for when they have need, but it's not a guaranteed paycheck.
Any suggestions for other day cab work and how to line it up?
I'm in no hurry. I have a great gig right now but I'd love to have a better thing going forward.
Thanks
Found a day cab I can afford- finding local work????

? Not much of a plan imo..,
Running a day cab I would recommend aggregate or intermodal, neither of which are making people rich right now.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
Get a sleeper, have options if whatever you do slows down. Way cheaper and more convenient than a hotel.
Coolbreeze100, 77fib77 and ExOTR Thank this. -
The viability of a day cab for general freight depends greatly on where you are planning on running, and how willing you are to hit a hotel for layovers. If you have flexibility (read: paper logs), you can make it work. If not, it's likely to be massively inconvenient, to put it mildly.
I run Northeast, and I'd run a daycab. Not ideal, but doable, especially if you make a career out of tight spaces or other things that make a daycab desirable. There's just a comfort factor about that bunk though, even a coffin sleeper is going to make things easier than napping in the seat waiting in line to unload somewhere.Zeviander Thanks this. -
For all the times you get somewhere n realize it's going to be an hour or two before you're loaded/unloaded; or you have a big lunch and it's time for a siesta; or just get that late in the day "ugh I rather lay down for 45 minutes" feeling.
Also: looking at trucks to buy without work to put a truck on....doesn't make money.
Buying a truck only means you've bought a truck. Costs continue from there whether you're working it or looking at it in the driveway.
1 Get work
2 find truck suited to that work
3 buy truck -

In California there is a lot of equipment moved either Ag, construction or material handling which would be with your own trailer? Unless your going to pay cash for that too I would have a lot of ducks lined up to cover monthly costs.
