Well $62,000 for a 2003 with 1.4 mil miles is just crazy. There's 700k on a rebuild so you have to figure that motor brand new lasted 700k miles got rebuilt and went another 700k, so really a rebuild is probably in the near future. If I was you, I would buy a Pete that has the engine you want and has a good body, paint any condition. I bet if you look you'll find one for under $25k. That leaves you with another $37k to paint it, put in any tranny you want and customize it, or leaves you with an extra $37k in the bank for a bigger fusion for unexpected break downs or slow periods. And you don't have to bust your ### as hard.
Also I don't know how much money you have or anything(I didn't read all 10pages so idk your situation) but after truck cost, you still need to pay your start up cost and a trailer (unless you're leasing onto someone) also keep $15,000 in the bank for any repairs than may be needed. A blown tranny can run you $10K easily. You can drive that rig for a week and the motor fails and the rod cuts the block in half.(I've seen this happen personally to a friend, truck was on road 1 week, the motor was rebuilt with paperwork and only 140k miles on it).
Im just looking out for you, don't want to see you back in a couple months saying the truck made you broke. I bought my first truck, Pete 379 short nose for $13k, and couple months ago bought my second Pete 379 long nose for $23,000. The long nose has a Detroit 12.7 and she gets 6.5-7.5 mpg. I know you want a nice rig for yourself but just starting out you may be better off with a "clunker" to get up and running and 6months down the road when you're making money doing great, then buy the truck of your dreams.
Found my dream truck but have a few questions

After taking to these guys and looking some more, I have decided not to go with the original truck I posted. I have found some others that are in the $45k range with a lot fewer miles, 2007 models, nice paint and interior and still set up the way I want(minus the ACERT). I am going to pursue one of these cheaper trucks and take the extra $35k and put it in the maintenance fund for a rainy day or I might possibly go ahead and rebuild the rears.
Thanks for your words of wisdom. Just thought is get you caught up.daf105paccar, MJ1657 and BAYOU Thank this. -

I think your going to be in good shape with your rate you are getting. If they keep you loaded.
Reliability of the truck will be very important. It is unfortunate that the government forced unwise emission standards on the truck makers.
That a guy with money can't buy with confidence a nice used truck that is less than 10 years old. What a system we have here. That Pete with 2 million might still look good 5 years from now. If these new trucks don't get better. -
