That '08 was a DPF equipped ACERT unarguably the worst POS motor ever put in a truck. The '04-'07 ACERT's are not bad motors.

Take everyone's advice, the truck is nice but truly over priced. I own a 379 and while i love it that truck does not suit your need's at all. Pulling van's with that truck even light 6 mpg will be a hard pull. I haul 50 percent over sized now with mine and my average is over 6.3 average. When i first started i bought this truck and pulled vans and refeer's. The best i could get was around 5.8-5.9. With what your going to haul and pull do yourself a favor and buy something well suited for your need's,that also appeal's to your taste. You can put / keep a lot of money per year in your pocket with the fuel you save. Take it from me even when you love the truck it SUCK'S at the pump! Especially when you know there is money you can save / keep.

I would question his math. Unless he has a killer set up and has figured how to do it at a lot slower speed. Do you know any of his details?
O/O's claiming great mpg is very common. If he is getting that really, there must be reasons for it. Seems hard to believe doing 70mph. With a 379. -

MVT limits their trucks to 62.5 mph and they have aero trucks with all the gadgets.
Speed kills mpg. -
No inframe. I have replaced lots of stuff. Sometimes 2 now. Bought this as a budget truck in 2008 with 680k on it. I run light though. 40 to 45 gross sometimes low 50's. -
As as far as the nice Red Pete it is a fine ride, but to much money, Trucking is a business, and has to be run as a business, or you will loose your rear end fast. No one has asked this question yet, have you checked the blue book price on it?? Have you talked to a bank on what they would lone you for it? Call OOIDA ask them what $62,000 worth of insurance will cost you?? Then go to the dealer and make them a cash offer based on what you learned. All they can do is turn it down, then you go find a truck just as good if not better some where else. And if your home every other night do you really need the table?? You can do your paperwork at you own kitchen table. And one more thing before you run out and get your own authority you might want to wait and see if the Morons in Washington, get the bill through to raise insurance rates from $700,000 to 4 million the cost could put you out of business before you get started. And with the crap going on in the Middle East, there is a good chance oil prices will go threw the roof, which means so will fuel prices. Not trying to pee on your dream, just food for thought. And as a O/O for 30 yrs. I wish you all the luck in the world, but I would not start out with a $62,000 used first truck.
And one more thing, down the road when you come over to the dark side, get a Step Deck, not a flatbed. You will be much more versatile.daf105paccar Thanks this.
