Well, after looking at every option for getting heavier rears under my 99 379, I bought another truck. It's not a PETE, and I'm going through some grieving but should be OK in time. What I would like to add to this thread, is that because I've been actively looking at trucks, mostly PETEs, for the last few months, I have a rather startling reaction to the 62k. That's a high price for an 03 with 1.4 million, no matter how detailed it is. Having the right specs for your intended purpose is worth something, but 62k is a very high price. Probably about 20k over what I have been seeing. Just my 2 cents, but do be careful--shiny new brake cans, some black paint and a nice smiling salesman don't reduce the miles.
Prices for used PETEs are pretty crazy now. I try to look at a truck as part of a business. If you look at that way, the brand is a choice not a necessity. Pete's rock, but your 62k could buy some serious truck. It should be easier to sell mine, if this is what asking prices are doing.
Found my dream truck but have a few questions

That I can agree with. Any dealer is more interested in a krylon overhaul. That's why he couldn't look at the just in truck that wasn't inspected.
rockyroad74 and BulletProof Thank this. -
And to address the mpg since I forgot last post. I'm going for 6mpg. The loads are rarely over 15k pounds. And that truck at 70mph was at 1375rpms. My T660 is at 1485 at 70 and I get 6.2 in it and it's turned down so its a big pig. -
Your call 'ole buddy but you know better being a wrench. Good looking gal and the work looks well done with pride but you can't forget what it is. And what about fatigue issues ? She has a lot of miles. You know as well as I do if there are not original repair orders to be viewed then the claim is BS.
She looks good through the rose colored glasses but so do all the gals at 2AM..........
Just saying......BulletProof Thanks this. -
Here's my viewpoint! For the money JTS is asking for that truck, you can find the same or very close to the same truck with a lot less miles. Subscribe to the truck paper's weekly add and you get all the latest trucks put up for sale. Do not let any sales person know you have that kind of cash, play poor. I only have $5000 for a down payment as an example. I would not pay cash for an older truck. If it gets wrecked and is a total loss, the insurance co. will give you book value. You will take a bath. Finance the truck and get gap ins. Gap ins. will pay the difference on the balance. If you have that kind of money in the bank, the bank will give you a swinging deal on a loan. You have a job, I assume you work every week. Slow the truck hunt down. Talk to your banker maybe the bank has some truckers in trouble. My bank sold me a truck some years ago, you talk about a deal. Get away from the we finance anyone people. You get loan approval from your bank and start contacting some of the dealers. Those salesman will find you a darn nice truck, lower miles, maybe some warrenty. My opinion is you are short changing yourself with that truck. It looks good, but @ that mileage you will be working on it and you will be on a 1st name basis with the guys at Pete's parts counter as well as the other parts counters around town.
BulletProof, rockyroad74, paintballer and 1 other person Thank this. -
