    I've got 12 of my 5/16 shorts, 4 of 5/16 longs (20') and I also carry 8 of 3/8 shorts and 5 of 3/8 longs. Then I have 16 ratchet binders

Just razzin, I have a couple 10' & 5' 5/16 that I use on some booms and buckets. Im a firm believer in a lil bit of overkill with heavy equipment.....Just me!!

Isn't 5/16" what they use for jewellery? Bracelets and such?
    All 3/8" and 1/2" here

I think that size of chain "axel" uses when he takes you for a walk Martin.. Haha
The only time I use that small of chain is to chain up my tag axle

Some of this grade 70 5/16" chain on the market today really is junk. I broke two fairly new ones in the last two weeks. Sure I was binding them tight, but you figure maybe 300-500 lbs on a 3 ft bar, I shouldn't be able to put more than 1500 ft/lbs on it, I got a feeling I could break any one of them at will, that's not right.

They're supposed to be 4700 lbs rated right ? or is that a different measurement than binding force ?

anyways they split apart at the weld on the links, not good, makes me wonder how many of my other ones have links that are just about to pop.

Well that makes me feel good that I carry 12 3/8, instead of 12 5/16

Something like a backhoe... I'd drive it right up to the neck of the trailer, one chain around the back pulling it forward .. It'll never move, 4 chains if it's in steel tracks but rubber wheels won't slide, don't know what's legal in NA but that's safe for small machines like that!

I have been told the CHP wants 4 chains, I have been told not to use slack chains. I have never had issues this way.
