Man charged with involuntary manslaughter after fatal wreck on I-44
    By Land Line staff

A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in a September fatal crash involving a truck driver.

The trucker was killed trying to avoid hitting the suspect’s stalled car in the middle of Interstate 44 in Eureka, MO, in September.

According to court documents, Matthew P. Snyders, 44, of St. Louis, was charged with involuntary manslaughter on Friday, Dec. 14, in the death of truck driver Joshua Sanders, 34, of Rolla, MO.

Sanders, who drove for Con-Way Truckload of Joplin, MO, was killed around 5 a.m. on Sept. 27 while trying to avoid hitting Snyders’ stalled car, which had hit a guard rail and was stopped in the westbound lane on I-44.

Court documents allege that Snyders’ blood-alcohol content level was “0.18 percent or more” at the time of the fatal crash, which is more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in Missouri.

see, now thats part of the problem. involuntary manslaughter for knowingly getting into your vehicle while smashed, and essentially planning on putting everyones life at risk? murder 2 at LEAST should be the result. 10 year minimum prison sentence.

I hate to say it, be the devils advocate and all, but manslaughter for being broken down in the middle of the road? (after a wreck caused by dui, I'll grant you)

This is the same kind of logic that get's us written up for being parked on the shoulder when a Corvette stuffs itself under our trailer.

I'd like justice for my fellow CDL holder as well, but this is just a stupid call by the courts.

This has nothing to do with the courts.
It will be an assistent DA who filled the charges.

I have to agree with you. Involuntary manslaughter is if a person is in the vehicle that is killed or the individual caused an accident killing an individual. This person had already hit the guardrail, and the driver tried to avoid hitting him. We would all like justice for the driver who was killed, but any good attorney would fight those charges and have them dropped.

It was just bad instincts on the driver's part. Everyone knows that you should just "hit the deer" other than swerving and possibly having the same fate.

i was thinking that also, but we never know what we would do if we see a human in front of us

a deer or possum or skunk, thats easy to say

but a human is much different, or should bring a much different response

one of my fears is a flipped trailer that you cannot see the underside until you are on top of it, just make a quick prayer to God before you go

The charge was made because of the DUI. If the car had been hit, there would probably have been no charges filed against anyone unless, somehow, the driver of the car had survived while intoxicated. If anyone is guilty of anything, it can be chargeable, but the deceased aren't usually charged.

I'm just surprised charges could go this long, before being brought, it was over 2 and a half months. That fact alone will probably be in the accused's favor.

It's likely that charges were brought to force his insurance company to pay damages. Once the insurance company comes through, it's possible that the charges will be dropped.
