I also wanted to get into the elusive frac sand hauling club here in Wisconsin. Our neighbor has been extremely successful hauling frac sand for mines in the area. This same neighbor however came over and drunkedly accused me of baiting the deer after I shot a magnum buck in our backyard this hunting season, because I didn't pick all of the pumpkins out of the garden. So, asking him for help is out of the question!

Yes, they operate not far from where i live. Company has been on a virtual roller coaster since its inception. I looked at signing my equipment on there awhile back but was warned off by others due to a continued occurrence of rubber checks.

I have heard they've replaced staff and operations have improved but I would advise you to do your due diligence before signing on.

I can't speak for up north, but down here in Texas it has slowed to a crawl. I drive for an o/o and last year I was getting $1500 to $2000 checks every week. Now I am thilled if I gross a grand. But, we pull for a company that their ops guy is moving his buddies in front of everyone else. I think our boss is about to move our trucks to a new company. But I suspect most of the companies are having hard times right now, it really is very slow. Good luck

Ya, it's rough for everyone. Just keep looking in all states involved. There are good companies, but they usually are not hiring often.

I live in TX as well and am hauling frac sand in PA for company out of AR. Best money Ive ever made. Before I was barely making enough money to keep my truck running now I can actually save some.

The tight oil business is in it's infancy, therefore it's going through constant change as companies search for more efficiency and cost control. I've been up here in the Bakken for 8 months and have already seen a myriad of changes to the business and business practices.

For the uninitiated, here's a quick primer on how the business and work flows:

An oil company (Continental, SM Energy, Fidelity, Hess, Oasis, etc) owns the lease and therefore the oil produced by the well.

They hire a drilling company to drill the well.

They then hire an oil field services company to do the frac on the well (Halliburton, S&S, Sanjel, Cudd, Schlumberger, etc)

The oil field services company hires the water and sand haulers.

What is now taking place, at least up here, is vertical integration. The oil companies, in an effort to control costs, are creating their own frac crews and also their own sand hauling fleets. (I'm not sure if they're doing their own water hauling) Our largest customer has lost two major clients in the last month who have gone this route, creating their own frac crews and sand hauling fleets.

Along with this change has come downward pressure on rates. We took a $5/hr rate decrease two months ago (we're paid by the hour, not by the mile), and word in the ether is we're looking at another one soon. There are companies bidding jobs at almost 30% less than we're getting to the truck just to keep trucks working.

Right now, with this being an election year and oil prices being down where they are at, if it were me I'd be careful before investing the money necessary to get into this business. I believe there are a lot more changes (not many good) on the way.

very well put as to your write up here,...i agree,..ive owned a frac sand hauling rig for 2 yrs now,..and have seen many changes,..none good,..no wonder the oil service companies are putting on their own trucks and drivers,...the middle men that take a percentage of our money as o/o are crooks,..the ones getting the contracts from the service companies,..such as flex frac,..now known as quicksand , just one example out of many, . to find these middleman companies out there and do business with them to where everything is on the up and up, is near imposable ,..we keep rolling with the punches and get further in debit ,.to where now their throats are fixing to get cut if the scenario as you described it plays out, going forward in this industry and am sure it will,...then we go down with them,...o/o hauling frac sand is getting to be more of a challenge than we have seen thus far,.... forunatly i only own one truck trailer and blower,..even at that it has not been easy,..im changing drivers and looking to haul for yet an other company that has what ever work there is out there right now ,...any direction is welcomed,...i'll probably start hauling freight and get rid of this trailer,.(.2002 heil pneumatic ) along with the blower(gardner denver ) so if there are any buyers out there annowe4057@yahoo.com is my address,... drivers inquiries can be sent there as well,...my best to you,.....keep on keepen on as they say,...im no quitter ,..im just trying to make an honest dollar in a corrupt system,..very challenging to say the least.
