NOW FIRST LET ME SAY: the trucking business has always been a rough business for any that choose to be a part of it and it always will be if profanity offends you , you may be better suited for burger king.i use it myself how much i use it well that depends on how much you piss me off it is in fact a part of this business and it always will be .

if your plan is to make a christen out of every driver , forget it it's not going to happen i for one will have no part of it its just another opinion and i don't want to hear it and ill be around along time yet.

no one has the right to change anyone in to what they think they ought to be , minding your own business is also part of the business.

now back to business, if you get your feelings hurt easy might better toughen up before you start or you will be misereable learn to let comments roll off like water on a duck you got to have a tough hide to stay in this business.

learn before you start to ignore what you hear at truck stops and the rambo radio most are just noise and has nothing to do with the business it comes from those that have to much time on there hands, frustration and just plain being lonely.

now you will hear all kinds of gloom and doom and 90% is trash it just aint so, such as i cant find a load, now you might not be abel to find a load going to your house but there are plenty of loads to take but you have to go where the freight goes not where you want to go, if you want to be home every weekend well this is the wrong business for you it aint gonna happen.

the freight is to cheap i cant make any money all i can find is a buck a mile , nonsense, i've been out here for almost 50 yrs and i have yet to haul a load for a buck a mile for that ill make a flower pot out of this thing and stay home it will make the wife happy anyway. might not pay much but how much do you think your going to make with a buck a mile, o ther are a lot that will offer those rates there not stupid if they can get you to haul it for that they make a lot more off of you, all you have to do is say no which a lot have forgotten how to do.

if you plan on buying a truck remembr this , your worst enemy is overhead these new trucks look great but they come with a cost mae sure your going to make enougfh money to pay for it , to loose one will break your heart not to medntion wreck your credit and don't even think about the bank or the finance company they quite frankly just dont give a #### they will be more then glad to take it back and resell it to some one else that had the dream you had , they could care less.

i personaly know of six drivrs this past week that have lost there trucks due to repo's not a good thing.

can you make money out here ? sure you can but you have to make it not a pretty new truck or another driver YOU alone has to make it and if you use a little common semse it wont be all that hard , before you make any decision think it thrue before you decide make sure your going to make money before your make the decision if your not just say no its really easy to do.

all you need is a lot of common sense and the willingness to work and dont let rumor convinced you in to making a bad decision.

and remember you never lose till you quit. best of luck to all. southernpride :biggrin_25514:

You hit the nail on the head regarding overhead. I think that's THE key to the whole situation. Why make it harder on yourself to begin with that need be? Look at my truck... it's nothing pretty, but it's mine. So's the trailer. I'm banking $$ now in hopes of upgrading the truck yet this year. I've set aside $$ for breakdowns and repairs as well. I was able to do this because of my low overhead. You wouldn't believe what I paid for my truck if I told you.

Upgrade down the road. Immediate gratification in my book is not a good thing. Set goals, some easy, some not too easy and reward yourself along the way.

Thanks SouthernPride, for a great post.

just a quick update on a post i made earlier on the subject of back hauls, now a fellow answered my post and he was very respectfull and i do apreciate that and his comments.

now i know all about the trucks that stack up in california there are more then a few and even though i havent been out there in more then 30 yrs i imagen things are pretty much the same and yes thats where the back hauls come from BUT i still disagree with the idea my business is based soley on money not a back haul as they call it if i cant make money with the load i just dont haul it I DONT DO BACK HAULS im out here to make money if i cant i just don't go period.

now i don't expect all to agree with me and i am by no means trying to make anyone mad it's just simple math and thats what i go by math, if i pull a load of freight 3000 miles you can bet its going to pay me and my truck more then that or quite frankly it can sit on the dock and i have left more then one sitting on the dock and i imagine ill o it again IT JUST DOES NOT PAY TO HAUL FOR FREE and if it dosent pay why bother. i dont work for free, if you work at a gas station would your work one week for free and the next agree to work for half wages , i bet you would raise hell all over the country , well its the same thing, why do it . if you dont start you wont have to stop.

now every driver out here has his own way of doing things and i really have no problem with that if they can do all that and make money im all for it BUT i can't simple as that and i don't mean yo imply that you have to do it my way , not at all im saying how i do it and thats it all have the right to do it there way and if thats what you want to do well when one day we run across each other , dinner is on me .

but it never makes good business sense to let any one take advantage of you, they do it once the next time they will try to do it again.

all of you the very best of luck, stay safe. southernpride
