Just wanted to throw it out there that if you guys are having a problem with your computer on the road and need a free fix so you can get back to your email and Facebook, just run an Ubuntu Live CD or any Live CD and it will do everything you probably use Windows for. Don't install it, just put the disc in and test it out. I had a trucker come through who needed his laptop worked on because his laptop got jarred around on the ride and the hard drive failed but didn't have the Windows discs to reinstall, and I burned him a copy of Ubuntu and it did everything he needed, and it even had drivers installed for his Sprint 3g wireless adapter. If you need to save files just sign up for a Windows Live email and use SkyDrive. It's a free 25 GB storage on the Internet and allows you access to web versions of Microsoft Word and Excel. This is all free and legal, if you think it sounds too good. I'm just trying to get my 7 posts so I can reply to messages regarding my post in Seek Employment. Hope someone finds this helpful.

I played with it few years ago and I still felt like Linux to me. I'm used to windows. I hate Microsoft and Windows and want to change, but don't know how. If you can put up a link that will show me how it works and how it works with windows stuff, I will give it another shot.

I run Firefox on my computer already so I'm used to that. I play games on my PS3 so I don't need the PC to do that. I need it to run my all in one printer. And my wife needs it to play Facebook games. Will it let her play on Facebook? I'm not kidding she will kill me if she can't do that.

Ubuntu comes with Firefox so Facebook and all things browser will work. It also comes with Open Office that will work with Microsoft Office documents. You can install Gimp as a free alternative to Photoshop.

    Hope it helps.

Beer Runner, I've been using Ubuntu for years. Facebook works just fine. The interface takes some getting used to, it's similar to a Mac, only the dock with icons you see on a Mac is on the left hand side instead of along the bottom. The interface is actually pretty easy to use, it's just foreign to most Windows users. A demonstration:

(In this video, he's running Ubuntu inside a Virtual Machine on Windows 7)

Most of the software is 100% free. There are quite a few games you can purchase. Also like a Mac or an iPhone, you get all your software from an app store like program, here called Ubuntu Software Center. There are thousands of free programs. Also like a Mac, you don't have to worry about getting viruses, and you don't need any security software running at all. Firefox is the default browser, so if you are using it now, you'll get the same here. Google Chrome is available as well.

You can try it out if you like. I recommend the Windows installer. This method is made for first timers like yourself. What this does is installs Ubuntu like Windows program. Instead of changing your hard drive, it creates a huge file and tricks Ubuntu into thinking that big ### file is a physical drive. You end up with a dual booting machine, meaning you can choose between Windows or Ubuntu when you start up your computer. This isn't a permanent way to install, but it lets you try it out and see if you like it. The great thing, when you are done, just boot into Windows, go to your add/remove programs in the control panel, uninstall Ubuntu, and it's GONE, putting your computer back to the way it was before. This is a GREAT way to get your feet wet and try it out without the commitment of partitioning your hard drive, which is what a traditional install will do. It's NOT for everyone. If you have a ton of Windows software you are attached to, it's not for you.

Here is a link to the Windows installer. It's pretty simple and straight forward.

That's the best way to try it out, in my opinion if you're just curious.
