I haven't used this service in a while; I haven't needed it. But, those of y'all that just want to check email or Facebook, or do some light browsing on a readable screen may appreciate this.
Basically, your cell phone will act as an old dial-up modem for your laptop, and just like the dial-up of the 90's, an incoming phone call (or text, if I recall correctly) will knock you offline. BE FOREWARNED: If you do not have unlimited minutes on your phone calls, you will burn up your minutes prematurely with this service. It makes the most sense for those with unlimited talking plans. Also, the number that your phone will call to recieve free internet is a California number, so if you want to try this at home on your landline, you want a really good long-distance service.
Here is the website to visit to get set up (you will need an internet connection to get setup):
www.socalfree.net
The website says, "Free, No strings attached"... and they mean it.
