    Hello All,
We've just started a small freight business as an extension of our brokering services and some of our bigger clients take anywhere from 15 to 45 days to pay their invoices. We are considering using factoring services to help with cash flow. I've read a bunch of horror stories on the forums but have also heard some good things from other truckers that I've spoken to. How has your experience been? So far I've looked at Thunder Funding, Riviera Financing, WEX and Interstate Capital as possible options. Any advise would be welcome.

Instead of factoring try giving your customer 10% for early payment.

Unfortunately that's not an option with these customers.

i would say avoid factoring at all costs, 15/45 days isn't really that bad, by the time you let this person and that person take 5-10% off the top that comes directly from the profit, there is less left for you. eat pb&j or whatever you have to do to make it threw and get your full payment is byfar the best way to go.

Why do you need factoring ? It's because your undercapitalized. Asking banks to capitalize your business has some problems. Asking factors for funding is akin to payday loans. Asking truckers for business advice is like asking prison inmates for legal advice. You would be much better off talking to your accountant about your undercapitalized state. He should be able to direct you to some more sensible alternatives to your lack of funding.

I understand your point and perhaps in the future that's what we'll do but at this point without that cash we won't be able to afford to pick up other loads, so losing 5%-10% off the profit of one load in order to be able to take on another 2-3 loads seems like a good deal.

defiantly under funded if you cant make it 15-45 days, i would suggest maybe trying to mix in some loads that offer quick pay if you need, the problem with factoring is once you factor one load then they require that you factor all loads from that customer can be a slippery slope, quick pay option is a one time option.

I'll assume you guys are trying to help, I'm well aware of my financial situation and of other options available. Not all factoring companies require that all loads from x customer go through them, although I've read about plenty that do that and also have long term contracts. This would be a short-term requirement for us, not a long term one. What I'm looking for is honest reviews of those people who have tried factoring and what company they would recommend.

Shippers should be applying for a line of credit with trucking companies. They should be paying truckers 5 or 10 percent extra to wait 45 days! Unless of course they pay COD like the rest of the world. This trucking industry has got it all upside down and backwards form any other business in the world.
