If those tariffs stay for longer than a month or two, the prices will go up substantially, the consumption will go down naturally. Freight volumes will be effed up even more that they are now. Amazon Prime haulers will flood the spot market.
Re-industrialization would be good for the the country. It is a long term project too and by the time it is finished, the freight will be hauled not only on autonomous trucks but also flying saucers, so you might as well forget about it. Your grandkids may benefit from it, not you, which is still very good.

You mean it's going to get worse?

If the rates go down any further the trucks are going to start paying the brokers.

Wouldn't it be something if somehow like within a month or two all of this just worked itself out and we moved on to other things.

I don't know, but right now the Freight Market is abysmal.

For the trucking business, the tariffs are horrible. Like death.
On the other hand, if China caves in, the trucking business wins too

My reply about the microwave was due to fond memories of my childhood.
I remember dad bringing home one of those new contraptions back in the early 70’s 1973 I believe. Huge countertop Microwave that could probably give us all cancer according to the media, lol.
Just moved into our brand new 4 bedroom 3bath that they had built for $32k. Just looked up the value on it today and it’s estimated at $900k! Dad had just settled in to his new job as a lineman for the power company so life was good. Think I accidentally saw his paycheck around that time and it was like $320.00 dollars.

The $500 dollar microwave example I gave was what he paid for it in 73. Was almost two paychecks and 1/64th the cost of that house.
Same countertop microwave today is probably $60.00.

That is funny man. I can remember our first microwave. It was one of the cheaper models and only had one dial on it. Can remember getting the little turn table plate afterwords as well. Dad never bought anything unless it was a must have back when I was kid. Although he had plenty of money we never lived like he did. Not sure what the cost of that thing was but I know he loved it. Ha ha It lasted until I was a teenager and never had any problems with it. Hell I can even remember getting a color TV for the first time since all we had was black and white.

That was a #### good job your Dad had at the time. Bet he thought he was on top of the world. We need more jobs like that, Good old Blue Collar Jobs are a must to keep our people from being lazy and worthless. Dad always said that good times bring weak men and tough times makes Good Men!

Before the power company he was tv/appliance repair guy for Sears. We always got the fixer upper TV’s, the ones you had to hit to get the picture to stop rolling.
Power company sent him to school and he became a relay engineer for them. Ended up taking an early retirement the company was offering. Retired at 53 but mainly due to heart problems.

The house that I bought 3 years ago has a Sub Zero fridge that was made in 1973. It still works great. Wonder how much life there is still left in it. Screenshot_2025-04-09-22-40-25-73_965bbf4d18d205f782c6b8409c5773a4.jpg

    That’s an old one!
About 15 years ago I used to deliver those fridges on a daily basis and they still give me nightmares today. They are incredibly heavy and built like tanks. Probably still get parts so maybe you can get another 50 years out of it.

To replace it now it’ll probably run you $10-15k if not more.

How old is the built in double oven? Has a retro vibe going on.
