Hey, I've got 2008 Freightliner Cascadia truck and it's under warranty right now. These trucks had a recall:
    #09V357000

Long story short, the inner tie rod and steering rack that are the issue on the truck already broke and have been replaced for me. But now it's happening again and they're telling me that it won't be covered under warranty or by that recall because they've fixed it already.

Any advice on how I should handle this?

ouh, yeah... new ideas, like R'n'p steering.. Innovative truck, driver is like a guinea pig! Mercedes want to use r'n'p on Actros MP4, I sugest we will get the same problem soon.

Can you tell me more about steering issues?

If the repairs were done a year or more ago,i'd say your chances are slim. Either way i would ask for the regional reps name and phone no. I've got a Ptb. and was not sure i was getting correct info from my dealer. Called Denton,Tx. and they gave me the name and no. The Rep. is the person who can help you if your dealer won't. There is no guarantee they will cover your problem, but even if they give you some help, parts, labor whatever,it helps some.

Even if they don't cover it, you should fix it. I dealt with the issue on one of my columbias earlier this summer. Long story short, replace the ends and connecting rod in one shot. It's actually cheaper because if you only do the ends it takes the tech more time to pull the old ends out of the shaft because they corrode in there and the shaft is only $50 or $80. Worn ends will cost you dearly in unnecessary steer tire wear.

When did you replace it? Besides the recall, the new part should carry a warranty through the manufacturer. I would contact the people you had it replaced with and then contact the manufacturer if need be.

If it's been over a year, then it's on you unless the warranty is longer. There should be improved aftermarket parts available. Suspension and steering parts, there should be different levels of quality made, depending how much you want to spend.

You haven't fixed it since September??

If you have a part replaced under warranty, then there is no warranty on the replaced part. I do not think that is right, but that is how the mfg's call it.
