I evacuated the A/C on this truck, then pulled a deep vacuum, about 29 Hg of mercury, then turned off the pump. After 1 hour I noticed that the vacuum went back to only 10 Hg of mercury. There is a leak somewhere, so I put 2 oz of dye in the system and recharged with Freon. The A/C was very cold, but lasted 2 days.

I have a big leak somewhere, but I don't see any presence of dye, so I evacuated the system again and started replacing the seals on the hoses: 2 on the A/C compressor, 2 on the radiator, 2 on the firewall connection and still... I have a leak.

    Where these Freghtliners usually leak?
Next is to open the dash - passenger side and the sleeper under the bed.

Go to Harbor Freight and get a halide leak detector. If either evaporator has ever iced up hard, that can crack the tubes and cause a leak. A leak on the condenser will show up as a oily looking dirty spot. A front seal leak on the compressor is also common and hard to spot because it won't leak much with the compressor off and you can't check it with a leak detector while it's running.

BTW... there are 4 o-rings on the expansion valve. But if you do those, you'll likely have to replace the expansion valve and the evaporator anyway. The little allen screws that hold the expansion valve to the evaporator pipe most likely will not come out. You'll also have to find your own replacement screws. Freightliner doesn't have them.

Also check the pressure switch on your dryer down on the passenger side frame rail. Unplug it and make sure its not leaking through there.
