many of our pick-up trucks now come with rack & pinion steering. better response, no loss of motion when steering, less parts to wear out and replace.

A Rack and Pinion has an "empty spot" always when you turn the wheel to the opposite way...ie. changing direction. also going straigh there´s a dead spot...
But in the Long run it has less moving parts to wear.
For Mercedes it took a Long while to give up to rack and pinion in their S-class personal vehicles.
It´s just the price and weight advantage that comes into equation..the "better steering response" is just false advertising and steering wheel input and feel just flies out the window.
