All I will charge him for is finding loads and that will be 160 per load and ofcourse do all the regular deductions, trailer rental, ins, etc. I am honestly not sure what type of income he will see weekly. He said he would be happy with 500 a week off every truck after expenses, not sure how this will work out but I dont have much to lose, his trucks are good mechanically and in decent shape so shouldnt have any dot issues.

Well yeah nobody wants to pay that. But that's the risk you take, and other companies take which is why rates are down. Have to be honest that's why you don't want his drivers as your employees. also why you don't want a contract with his drivers. Something happens to them on the job and he now has a leg to stand on why he wasn't insuring his drivers, he can say you had a contract with them and they were your employees.

Question to ask, is he leaving his current lease or are they booting him. Is he leaving because not making enough money? Can you solve that issue for him?

Having trucks leased on can be a good thing, and can work for both parties. With that being said, things need to be set-up right for your protection. And if it was license to print money everyone would be doing it. Believe me it's not all sunshine and roses man. Its still trucking and you know how that goes.

He is not happy with the loads they are taking=not happy with the money. It seems like they take any load even if it pays 90 cents per mile is what he is telling me. They charge him a % so they dont really care and his teucks always pull heavy loads.

I think I might give it a shot in a month or two and see what happens, now I just got to work on a good contract between me and him.

He has 4 trucks. I think I can do better than 500 a week for him so we will see what happens. Just a bit scared about taking over his drivers as he wants me to do everything.

Always worth exploring, and I hope it works out for both of you. But please cover your ###. Otherwise you'll be asking questions on the lawyer forum not the trucker forum.
