It's not a Ftitz. Company does it own work. But hubby knows about Ca, he drove there all the time with OD. He even told company now to check into that law.

Yes, OD only does doubles and sometimes triples. On the rare occasion you might get a single van. Now if you do city, which pays hourly you would be single mostly. But they all require hazemat.

Not having to deal with EGR and DEF reduces a lot of problems and expenses. There is plenty of freight east of CA.

Until he is finished with the lease and has title in hand, the only control he will have is his fuel cost. Manage that, and he will save a lot of money.

Oh ,yes you are so correct. Not having a new truck with all the computer and egr plus Def is very cost effective. For one of you have mechanical knowledge you can fix it yourself mostly. There will be time you can't and will have to have a shop. But those are alot less with an older truck , if you have knowledge and ability than a new truck with all that emissions stuff on it.

Since he has major old truck experience thru working in the motor pool this was a good option. Right now he is getting a real good feel for this truck since he is breaking in new engine.

We didn't loose a thing with not going to Ca. But we know what that ruling will come down to also. For whatever passes in CA soon becomes law for all other states. Let's all hope that's a very long way off.

I have to say that for him to learn the ropes of owning his own truck this is a good company on this respect. With the variety of freight minus oversize, refer, or hazemat he is getting a good education on dealing with pickup and delivery paperwork and scheduling. Since elogs he knows but is now working with it in a whole new way. Everyday he is learning something that he needs to learn for when he finally does own truck and goes out on his own if he chooses to. Another nice thing you can finish lease and own truck but still stay with company at higher pay rate then. Many do stay we have talked with a couple that went thru the l/p with this company and choose to stay. There are a few on this forum that are right now in the l/p and it's working for them too. But like any personal job/business you must keep on top of expenses and income and make sure you Don't end up in a hole or on the negative.

Having a low truck payment with an older but good truck goes a very long way to that +side end. Not to mention the.15 cents a mile maintenance fee put away will be a great bonus for repair and reconditioning to bring truck to looking good inside and out and running at top of its performance.

15 com maintenance is a warranty program, not escrow.
Use it every chance you get. Little tweeks here and there. You won't get it back. It just goes away once you pay the truck off

Yes, that's why I mentioned getting the truck all done. Since right now we won't need too much engine work and all hoses and belts and harness was replaced also. But there will be other repairs to do for maintenance like gasket and door ect. Still it will be nice to not have to pull from saved money for repair till truck is paid off. We plan on continuing that idea after payoff.

    Major tip time all. Peoplenet.
If you get a day with crappy fuel milage.
You must log out daily with people net logs to reset your trip average mpg. You do this for the night and you do it before you idle. If you idle this will not have it show on the people net computer or your logs. This has been hubby's experience when he worked with people net with OD.

But if you're getting good mpg then you might not want to so you can keep it. Logging out resets that meter average mpg. If you log out you Should be able to idle with out it showing on the people net. That's if nothing has been changed there.
