Hello hope everybody is having a good day. New to this forum, I have read and gained a lot of valuable information through this site. I am currently a company driver/dispatcher/manager for a pallet company in NJ. Looking for ways to generate more streams of incomes.

I have around 10+ expirence with this company in particular. They own about 5 power units and around 35 trailers of their own and hual nothing but their own product (empty wood pallets). Me being their lead ace driver, $$ is pretty good. Little responsibilities, long hours. $1100 weekly gross for 60hrs or so a week.

I have a very good relationship with the owners of this company but really trying to make more $.
Stuck now in the crossroads thinking to myself if I should continue with them or if I should lease my truck on with a company near me that does 24 7 rail work and try to clear $2000+ working the same hours.

Either that or talk to the owners of the company I work for into getting his own MC# and let me help him bring in an extra Renvenue for the company. Since I already drive and dispatch for the owners when they are on vacation. We can use our same drivers and trailers and routes.

I have even thought about talking to our very own customer list that we have gain a relationship with supplying them pallets , to see what freight they have to be moved since we have a customer list for manufacturing and distribution companies all over NJ.

Just wanted to post this out on this website bc I see there are many intectual people and business savvy people, just wanted some insight on what someone else would do.

Now I recently purchased my own tractor as well
    1999 peterbilt 378 with a 12.7 L Detroit daycab

Thought this post was going too long so I'll cut it short here. Any responses I'll be quick to reply. Thank you in advance

Many owner ops clear more than 1100 a week. That's only $57k a year. But many fail as well.

    Bigrayon and TmGM Thank this.

It's a pretty good gig that you seem happy doing, and you have a good relationship with the people that you work for. Before you consider leaving, and risking all that against the possibility of becoming just another cog in a giant machine, becoming unhappy, and maybe even going broke...

Try to work something out with the people you work for, now. Maybe they would like to get into the freight business, either as carriers or brokers. If you bring in new revenue, they ought to be willing to share it - maybe even give you an ownership share in the new line of business.

Ultimately, money isn't everything. If you are making it on what you have, and happy where you are, then that's a good gig. Try to improve upon that - not throw it away for the risk and hope of something slightly better. If you do throw it away, do so either because you had to, or because the alternative offer was too good to resist.

Working for yourself and being an independent truck driver is a dream for alot of drivers with very good intentions, however it always pays to do your due diligence before making the big move, getting a certified accountant to do a risk assessment is always very wise it could help you from getting into major debt and bankruptcy.
