From Day one with Carbon Express

Today was day 1 of orientation with Carbon Express, lots of videos and a brand new physical. Tomorrow I get to meet more of the office folks and introduced to the maintenance manager. So far I like what I have experienced. Can't wait to start training on Wednesday.

 

The majority of my week was spent watching safety video getting my TWIC application completed, today I got to do a pump out of a sub station. And drive my first smooth bore tank. It was an experience to say the least. Folks just don't get what it takes to drive a tanker safely. All in all good day.

 

Okay, week in review, my trainer has a dedicated run from Bedford to Boyonne NJ, going to Baltic OH. So I spent the week doing 2 rounds of that.

Let me say that getting used to the cargo "moving" is a unique feeling. We are loaded by the refinery and pump the load off in Baltic OH. I'm training in an Ishift Volvo, which I love by the way.

As far as the company goes, so far so good, I'm hourly at the moment but they do have mileage work too.

I'm liking this job, it keeps me on my toes.

 

Yes, they do have a few owner operators, I am not sure of the compensation package though.

 

Okay, I'm finishing up week four of training, I'm in Ohio working with a driver who loads out of chevron in Louisville KY. It's one of our larger accounts I'm told. If this week goes well, and it has I should be on my own next. I like the tanker work, compartment tanks are my favorite by far. Though there is much more to learn I feel I have a pretty good grasp on the basics. I have no complaints thus far about the company.
Well we're starting out at midnight so I better try and sleep some, more to come.
