Don't know if this the right section to post this, but I have a bit of a problem going on. So I've only been driving for about 2 months on my own, and then all this covid-19 stuff starts to pop off.
We were running good for a couple of weeks, and then things started slowing down, and then next thing you know, the terminal mangers assistant calls us all, and tells us we're all being laid off.
The good thing is they're not going to deny anyone's unemployment claim, BUT since my horns are green, and I'm under a training contract I'm worried that there is a 50/50 chance that I'll be let go, and I want be able to go back.
So the short power point of question are
1. Should I just sit tight till operations resume at our contracts?
2. Should I look into other companies that take new drivers?
3. Seeing as I'm under a training contract they wouldn't let me go once they start back up, would they?
Again if this is the wrong section for this post feel free to move it.

look for another job. but i suspect you will have some responsibility for any monies you owe for training. you are pretty much "low man on the totem pole", meaning you have no seniority, or, last hired, first fired.....x1Heavy Thanks this. -
A contract for money owed is probably due.
Uncle Sam is making 4000 dollars cash unemployment per month if combined with a state 400 dollars a week.
Surely you can buy that contract out and be done with it. If you had the cash for school that would be the first thing.
Battle Plans do not survive contact with the enemy. If this is COVID19 lay off, go file and be happy. Stack that money. Pay them off and be free. IF and when better times come you have a job there. -
Check with a legal advisor/advocate. The company that you signed a contract with has, in my opinion, breached the contract. Through no fault of your own, they have terminated you. Why do I say "terminated"(?), because, by law, you cannot collect unemployment unless you are unemployed. As long as you have it in writing, not an over the phone conversation, that you no longer are employed, file for unemployment. As soon as you have been accepted and are receiving unemployment compensation, the State has proven your status of unemployed,i.e. terminated. Contract is void.

I know what I would do, but you have to decide if it's right for you.
I'd find another company to work for and keep the experience going.
Maybe a reefer outfit such as NTB. Tell a new company you're laid off, but your work ethic won't allow you to be unemployed and you'd rather be working than drawing unemployment checks.

That's what I was thinking, I still have a copy of my contract from when I did all the paper work from orientation, so I was going to have a legal person look it over, and see what could possibly be my next steps if in this whole situation. I remember seeing something that looked like it said my contract would be voided if I was laid off or something around those lines.
