Are you with UPS or a different company?
Ky Flash Thanks this. -
I can’t believe that an international corporation like UPS doesn’t make any provision for changing location. Are you on good terms with your manager? I’d ask for his help. If there aren’t formal channels, maybe he can talk to his counterpart in Nashville to grease the skids.
nextgentrucker, gentleroger, Suspect Zero and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’m not sure how close to Nashville you desire to be but there is a company I’ve always kept my eye on in Dresden TN, Doyle Sims and Sons, they do the type of work I enjoy, end dumps liquid tank and pneumatics. I’m not sure how their pay ranks with UPS, but the family culture between driver and company seems to be strong.

I agree. The idea of not having transfer language kind of sucks. The job is literally the dream job, it’s just brutal that there’s nothing regarding transferring available. I’ve brought it up to some managers attention before and the only thing they were able to suggest was that if I quit being a union driver and went into management that that may be a way I could get a position established down there. I love driving and wouldn’t want to get into management though

I would be on the phone to the terminal als where you ar planning to move already.
Connecting with the managers down there can't hurt and they may be able to make something happen. Especially as Chinatown mentioned with the postal work being added there is a very good chance of positions coming up. Also they may not have a spot today but know that they will in a few weeks or a month. -
Well I moved from a large carrier to a small 5 truck fleet to be with my family and here's my experience so far:
Right off the bat you will be expected to misuse PC as much as possible and that will result in 18 to 20 hour days sometimes.
My company is VERY dependant on one customer and will bend over backwards to keep them happy......even at the drivers expense as we all got a paycut due to lower rates.
The one and only dispatcher is a former driver who goes out of his way to take care of his buddy(who pretty much gets to pick and chose what loads he wants).
Benefits are very basic but affordable.
Paid by percentage on regional loads and local work only pays $18 an hour.
Everyone has an assigned trailer so every load is going to be a live load and if something happens to your trailer then your just out of luck until it gets fixed.
On the plus side the trucks are very nice fully loaded Pete 579's even though they all got 500,000+ miles.
This is just my personal experience so YMMV.nextgentrucker Thanks this. -
I like small companies. The one i have is great for me, others good to downright awful companies that think "home weekends" really means home "during" weekends
SlickNick55 Thanks this. -
nextgentrucker and SlickNick55 Thank this.

I’d like to stay local if possible since that’s what I’ve been doing, but a decent regional position wouldn’t be bad. I just don’t want something where I’m gone for 2 or 3 weeks at a time.
