Incident date : April 29, 2013. I had my fuel cards stolen when the truck was parked for service at a shop. After stealing the cards, the thiefs searched my truck and found the pin numbers written down on a piece of paper. Found out after 3 days but in the meantime these guys had stolen app $4000 worth of fuel from my cards. Incidentally, I found a Fuel card from some other company in my truck. I called that company and they told me that their fuel card was also stolen exactly 2 days before my card was stolen. The thiefs were able to steal app $1000 of fuel from their card. Their driver had written the pin on a diary and the thiefs got these cards after breaking the lock. My fuel card was also found out 2-3 days later in some owner operator's truck after it was cancelled. Now this guy's fuel card was also stolen. Don't know yet how much did he lose. All of these thefts have happened in Brampton (ON) in the last 15 days or so. Please please guys...Remove your fuel cards from the trucks, and remove your pins from the trucks coz after they steal the cards they search the truck. coz they know they will find the pin written down somewhere.
No wonder these cards find their way to people who haul cheap freight. that is how they are able to undercut everybody and still make a profit.Coz their fuel is free.Red alert in Brampton (ON)

I wonder if you slipped the card into a plastic bag and took it to the nearest station they would check for prints against their database ?
-
They would need my phone and the code for my phone to get my fuel card pins.
Just look for the guy hanging around the card lock looking to sell fuel cheap using these stolen cards. -
I kept track on my Pins by using a certain sequence. NEVER written exactly like they are. Let's say Pin # is 2584 I would write down 8425 or 5842 etc.

Your fuel card provider should be able to tell you where and exactly when it was used at each of the stolen purchase locations. Lots of truck stops have cameras now. Perhaps if you take this information to the cops they could demand the truck stop give them the video? It may be stored for only 24 hours or maybe 1 week but probably not forever. Hope you catch the thieves. All you would need is dot number then enter it into ai.fmcsa.dot.gov it will give you contact info and location. As to drivers writing down pin numbers that is kind of stupid. You are able to memories your bank card pin without it written down in your wallet, no? Probably use fuel card more often too. If any more comes of this, please update. Don't forget to also report the thief to ifta.
Oh and one other thing, you need to trust your mechanic more or find a better one. -
New company, New fuel cards. Had not memorized the pin yet. Anyways fuel card provider has given me dates and times when the card was used and I have given this information to the police. How do i report this to IFTA. plz advise thx
-
They give you locations too? The ifta part comes after you figure out who the thief is. After the cops are done with them you could call the state they are based in's ifta office and ask there. Never had to do it but I have zero sympathy for thieves. That is a direct threat to your livelihood. There is a dark corner in hell for those people.

Same thing happened with me last week had my truck at shop and someone stole my GPS from the truck asked shop and they have no clue $ 400.00 US gone down the drain. I never leave my fuel card in the truck made mistake with GPS and now its gone.
-
I always kept my fuel card in my wallet and the pin in my safe. It only takes a few days to remember a new pin. There is no reason leaving it laying around and your wallet usually goes where you go.
The shop is liable to keep your truck safe. At least in the US it is. Is the credit card company making you pay for the theft? You should have some recourse of action. -
