Beats me. My guess is this. Let us say I work for xyz company and I have a fuel card from ABC gas company. You also work for xyz company and/or have a fuel card from ABC gas company. My card gets stolen. When I find out, I cancel the card. Now they target you. They steal your card and put my card in your truck. You pick up your truck and check. You believe your card is still there ( I am certain you do not remember your card number). This will allow your card to be misused for a longer period of time because you believe your card is not stolen and so you will not cancel your card. Thus a bigger theft can be comitted with one card. Most Canadian companies carry more than 1 fuel card in their trucks coz different companies give them different deals on their fuel purchases

concdriver made perfect sense with his guess.

I always keep fuel cards on my person (in my wallet) and pin codes in my cell

Was in Winnipeg a couple of days ago and I was approached by a woman who wanted to know if I wanted some cheap diesel. She is not working alone. Atleast 2 big strong guys with her waiting in a black pick up truck in case somebody wants to create trouble. I declined. She came back a couple of hours later and she wanted to know if I could give her my phone for a couple of minutes. I declined that as well. I guess the way they are working is that they create a false lead so that if law enforcement investigates the leads always points to the wrong direction. Even when LE is able to get the video feeds from the truck stop, the plates on the truck are stolen as well. Fuel card scam has grown pretty big here in Canada. The company I work for said this has cost them in excess of a Million Dollars

I just got back from Ontario and at a drivers meeting they said there had been quite a few break ins with our company's trucks for fuel cards. Luckily the cards are coded, however an OO wasn't so lucky. Had his cards and pins in the truck when he went on 2 weeks vacation and they were stolen when he was away. $17,000 later....... Kenworths seem to be their target. Apparently the passenger door is easy to get opened. Be careful !

    concdriver Thanks this.
