I asked the manager as well when I stayed there. That's why I knew that was their "excuse". I cant say for certain that it isn't a city ordinance, but for some reason, my 57 years of life's experiences, just cant seem to grasp that a city would enact an ordinance that makes it illegal for a truck driver to stay more than 6 hours at a truck stop. It just doesn't make sense to me for a city council to do that for (or to govern parking on) private properties.
I am more inclined to believe that it is a company policy. This is a pretty busy place for local companies like Coca Cola, UPS & others. I think they want to rotate out trucks who fuel, eat & scale regularly. I think the 6 hr rule is in place to intentionally, keep trucks rotating. If we know that we can not stay there for our 10 hr break, we wont plan to stay there but to only drop in for fuel, tacos & scales, then leave. They simply do not want trucks planning to park & take up space for any length of time. Therefore, the idea is that, there will always be spaces available for those other trucks to park for fuel, scale & tacos.
Unfortunately, I have a customer in Dallas, right up from there that requires full & empty scale tickets from this place. I have to scale there, but I dont have to buy fuel or tacos there.... & I wont.

Okay. But the difference between a "truck stop" and a "fuel stop" is like night and day in terms of what one does or does not attract.
If you were to bring the Dallas J or TA to that same mesquite location you would refuse to stay there for fear of losing your life or property. These are two entirely different geographical and sociological locations. The far south Dallas location is bad enough, but the east Dallas location... You would not stay there once the local elements (within walking distance) set up shop there.
The Mesquite PD is just not big enough to deal with that. -
It is a city ordinance. My wife and I were going to bobtail to a local motel for the night, until the motel said we could not park our truck due to the ordinance. I called another motel and was given the same story.

There is a HUGE market for paid, secure parking all over the DFW area. Anybody with some money for development and acquisition land can quickly book a 150 slot parking area at $100/month, all long term. I understand why these cities impose these ordinances but it is incumbent on someone to capitalize on this opportunity and do the local trucking industry a huge favor too.
