I will be driving a 26 foot Penske truck as well as a car trailer from Rockford IL. To Tucson Arizona. I will be taking I-80 to I-35 south down to Oklahoma City then west on I-40 to Albuquerque NM.. Then I will be taking I-25 south to Las Cruces NM and finally west on I-10 to Tucson Arizona. The trucks listed MPG is 8, I am trying to get a handle on my fuel costs for this trip as well as road tolls along the way. I don't know how much per axle these states along this rout charge. Any help from the professionals here would be appreciated!
Fuel cost and toll question please

Your only toll is in Ks., right ? Not sure if they charge per axle or weight or both. Just figure your total miles divided by 8 mpg for total gallons needed. You can check on the web for current gas prices. Be advised 8 mpg is under ideal conditions, Towing your 6000 lb classic Caddie will add to the weight as well as bucking any headwind.

Well, I hope $1500 will get me there anyway.

the toll for a Big Truck in KS is $5.75 so a little box truck can only be less then that.

If you want to go through OKC, I would go down to St. Louis and catch I-44 to OKC. That's 1780 miles that route. There's a 1715 mile route, but some is on US highways.
Last Uhaul 26 footer I rented, I got 10 mpg.
Anyways, your fuel should run $625- $800 based on 8-10 mpg. Total trip with 2 nights motel should run you no more than a $1000.
Paying mileage will cost you another $500 or so. It'll be close.
My guess is $1400. -
No mileage fees with the diesel Penske truck rental Thanks for your answer!. Although I can stay in motels if the weather gets bad I will probably snooze when I get tired and then truck on. My wife is in a hurry to set up her new home. I will plan on about $800.00 in fuel costs and will review the St Louis route you recommend. The miles you quoted look shorter than I figured on the other route I was going to take. Are there any tolls on the St Louis route? THANKS!Last edited: Nov 12, 2011

If you don't mind skinny roads, you can jump off at Hatch, NM and catch NM26 to Deming, NM to catch I-10 west to Tucson. It will save time and mileage.

Turner Turnpike and Will Rogers.
With four axles, probably 9.00 at each.
If you stay on Kilpatrick around OKC it takes exact change. -
Sounds right.
I know you don't get much back from a 10.
