fuel math

Just do a search for "fuel surcharge" in the search box at the top of this forum. I know it has been explained on several occassions by several people, including myself on here.

 

Simply go to Google and type in "how to calculate fuel surcharge" (without the " " ) it will come up with several sites that will explain how to do this.. Some sites even give you links to other sites that will show you how to get the average price of fuel in the area your picking the load up in...

I would post them but they have advertisements, and that is not allowed here in this forum...

 

Best rule of thumb is $.01 FSC for every $.05 increase in the price of fuel. But you first have to draw a line in the sand to determine your starting base price of fuel.

 

TX is right I have seen base price range from $1.10/gl to $1.50/gl depends who is doing the figures Also base mpg's is different from 5.5 mpg to 6.0mpg. Friend of mine with his own authority sets his at a flat 52% of the load.


If you figure by the mile for worst case scenario it works like this.......

you subtract $1.50 base from average fuel price (lets use $4.75/gl) = $3.25

divide that by mpg's 6 3.25/6= gives you $0.54/mi FSC
