    Lemme tryna 'splain dis....

    My apples-to-apples comparison is for "same state" i.e. VA fueling, with routing via wherever.

    I look at TRUCK STOP prices, then locate the non-truck stop gas station near me.

    Last week, I fueled up 200 gallons at $2.759 (local gas station) = $550. Same volume at Truck stop @ $3.099 would be $619. Thats a $70 savings right there.

    If I do this once a week, over 12 weeks, my real savings (money not paid out to Truck Stop chains) will be $70 x 12 = $840

    Are you telling me that my ifta bill will exceed $840/quarter, if im only running in the South East???

    Even if I run north east, would it be that much?

    Keep in mind, I run 1800-2000 miles max per week (3 days only)

    I understand the pay now / pay later. I want to pay later, using my realized pump savings.

    Also, I'm using a cashback credit card, and plan to cash out the earnings, and use them to pay the ifta bill....

    No need for a "fleet" fuel card.

    Same state, makes sense. Multi jurisdictional and my point still stands.

    Take your 2.759 in va compared to my 3.24 in pa (actual price for me today at sapp) and who is further ahead? By how much?

    dunchues and driverdriver Thank this.

    Just looked at fuelbook:

    VA: Prince George @ US GAS = 2.707 (less ifta) / 2.909 (with ifta)

    PA: Clearfield @ SAPP BROS = 2.978 (less ifta) / 3.719 (with ifta)

    Therefore if buying 200 gallons, cost will be:

    VA: $541 (less ifta) / $581 (with ifta) => difference of $40

    PA: $596 (less ifta) / $744 (with ifta) => difference of $148

    Interpretation:

    I pay less, even with IFTA included, in VA (obvious...lol)

    But, I will pay LATER, if I tend to go to higher ifta states.

    Conclussion:

    I will come out ahead everytime (savings of about $100) every 200 gallons, with ifta included.

    You may pay now (and have a lower ifta bill later), but using creative financing (i.e. bank cashback) I get to smack the ifta bill down, with real dollars courtesy of Wells Fargo, every quarter.

    Petty Cash Thanks this.

    I was really thinking you didn't understand ifta.
    Thanks for taking the time to post all the numbers from FUELBOOK hopefully it will help those that just seem to grasp it.

    You're paying the same tax per gallon whether you fuel at the truck stop or the mom & pop up the road. You also get the same credits toward IFTA, because both fuel stops collect it and pass it on to the state.

    Let's try it this way...if you have the choice between buying fuel in Missouri for $2.89/gallon or fueling in Illinois for $2.99/gallon, where would you get fuel?

    It shouldn’t, you only pay for the miles you travel, anything over you get credit for, anything under you pay for

    Your trip takes you past both, within 20 minutes of each other. Where do you fuel to save money?
