    Lurch, thanks.
That makes sense I guess if you think about it that way...I didn't really think that was possible, I guess I just havent seen it yet.

Them tanks on a pete are a pain. Just use bungee cords to hold the nozzle and stay away from the child proof fuel caps the pete's have...:biggrin_25521:

I have a couple hundred bungee cords on me at all times. I can say clearly, that if a driver ever asks me for a few they can have them. I always use one on the drivers side, and if I am cleaning the windows ect, I use them on both sides.

I remember once trying to change a fuel filter in my old Ford Probe. The filter was under the hood on the driver side. Well this was the first car, that I was unable to get the fuel shut off switch off. So I just figured what the heck the car was sitting for about 30minm, and decide to just unhook the lines. Well that wasn't to smart as the pressure was so strong I got gas right in the face eyes included. and all over a hot engine. Lucky for me the car didn't catch fire, and I hosed it all down with water, before it could start..

When I used to haul fuel one of our contracts was with CN Rail to transfer diesel from railcars to a fuel tank about 2 miles away. The rail cars offload at the bottom so there was no way to do this multiple times a day without getting a diesel bath.

The irony? There was a pipeline directly from the refinery to the tank. :biggrin_2552:
I guess it was cheaper to do it the way we were rather than paying the freight on the pipeline (which is how they do it now).

Just be careful with the bungees. We just got a memo from our safety dept. Apparently more than one driver had them hooked onto the step when not in use and fell while exiting the cab. We were told to remove them from the steps.

With Experience comes funny screw ups...
If your are an experienced driver you are less likely to do the common screw ups like dropping the trailer, send the king pin over the fifth wheel, pop the air lines because you forgot to uncouple them, bend the crap out of the fairings, etc... Yeah, it was foolish.. But it sounds like you now and accept it... At least it's a relatively inexpensive fudge up and no one got hurt(except your ego...lol) and if all else fails it's a good reminder to close the door...lol

PS. My common screw up was that I always forget to shut the doors on the side storage compartment...It stopped being funny after the 12th time.

That's why drivers are not supposed to leave the pump when fueling their trucks. I do believe it's an OSHA law from what a lady that worked at pilot told me.

Let us all know if your company charges you for a preventable incident? I believe ours does, but definately I am not positive of that.

Sorry about the luck though :( I worry about that all the time when I fuel my car and stick it in the tank and get in the car to keep warm that it might spill out for some odd reason because that's just my luck:yes2557:
