Back on the road again, hotel and repair bill paid for by the shop at fault. The problem could not have been fixed by anyone except a confident Mercedes engine veteran.

The Germans are very smart, the engine is actually simple. When brought in for a full service it is the process by which these engines need to be handled that causes many mechanics to throw their hands up in the air like they got a gun on them, in front of a Mercedes. For example, fill oil too fast in a Mercedez car and the check engine light comes on. You got to pour s-l-o-w-l-y putting oil in one of their cars, it's the 'process'.

So you want to know what the actual problem was, well ok. I need to get a copy of the report for my maintenance tomorrow but from what I understand it was something related to the fuel tube going to the filter housing, something described as 'internal' that would and will stump most mechanics. Something was hit, moved, or otherwise 'out of whack' caused by the mechanic doing the full service.

I will be changing my policy on who does my full services. I'll tell you that right now.

I'm heading to hell out of Dodge!

As per the engine manual for the MBE4000......3 cranking periods of x minutes with x mixtures of cool down for the starter will prime the system. It works. I have had to do this on occasion. Sorry, I can't remember the value of x right now, it's in the manual, in the truck and I'm at home.

As per the service bulletin for MBE4000 fuel filter changes.......do not snap new filter onto the filter housing cap as indicated on the cap. Rather press filter into housing and then replace cap. There is a small chance that there will be a small gap at the bottom if the filter causing a a loss of prime if one snaps the filter onto cap first.

As for seeing bubbles in the filter.... That's NOT the Mercedes filter it sounds Like the Davco Fuel Pro to me. Did the guy pull off the old filter and leave the rubber grommet on the shaft then try to fit the new filter on top of that?

Bottom line is that Mercedes filters are not the nightmare people make them out to be. One just has to learn the procedure and follow it. NO BIG DEAL.

It's plain and simple, Mercedes truck engines are crap! :biggrin_2559:

Companies that have bought them quickly change their minds and never buy them again.

You need more than 325 HP. :)
