Fuller FS5406A Transmission, This is a 6 speed transmission isn't it. Ive never seen this truck in person, But I have to fly to Cali and get it soon, Im trying to learn something about it before I get there. Its a straight truck with a Cummins engine. Im thinking I need to know a little about this tranny before I drive halfway across the United states. I learned in a 10 speed.

    Here ya go - http://www.roadranger.com/ecm/group...roadranger/documents/content/rr_trsl-0191.pdf

Yes, it is a 6-speed. Its synchronized too so you shouldn't need to double clutch or float, although of course its always possible the previous drivers destroyed the synchros lol. You're not gonna be able to bang gears like you would in a little car but it won't be like the 10 speed you learned on either.

I used to work on these straight trucks a lot, they are really easy to drive. Just takes a bit of getting used to the really long throw of the shifter.

Thanks man, I just left the Tag office here in Oklahoma, All the red tape is enough to make you want to pull your hair out. This truck is for personal use only. Its got a huge Gunite compressor on back right now that I will remove once I get it home. I just wanted it for camping and Going Oklahoma to Arizona where a have a small parcel of land near Grand Canyon. It has a flatbed about 20 feet long, So I could load my truck camper and still have room for some 4 wheelers, or a jet ski and all that you see. Well progressive tells me I now need commercial insurance because of the size truck. That's no problem , I get some commercial insurance with progressive for $450.00 a year just liability and a little personal injury ya know. So now its time for tags and all, First they said I need a farm tag, but Tag agent said no I need commercial tags, So I got a commercial Tag now lol, And I guess this means I have to go through weigh stations and all that? Is that right? Do I need to keep logs and all that? All Im doing is trying to get the truck home to Oklahoma so I can use it around the house and for camping, going and getting feed for my Hogs and stuff like that, That's it, Nothing else.

I copied that from here: http://www.dmv.org/ok-oklahoma/rv-motor-homes.php

If you are going to permanently mount the camper all you need is a regular tag and insurance, no matter what size your truck is.

I wish all these other States were the same as Oklahoma lol, My problem was moving it legally from California through Az/ NM/ Tx/ and to Oklahoma. I got it taken care of though. I called every state DMV and port of entry and got instructions. California said to take off all company Logos and put not for hire stickers on doors and keep it under 26,000 pounds to avoid Log books, Stop at scales and tell them what Im doing and where Im going. Same thing gets me through AZ/ Then stop and buy a permit to pass through New Mexico at Gallup port of entry. Ill be coming up I40 out of Bakersfield, If anybody has any advice feel free to chime in. :biggrin_2554:

Train Ride to Los Angeles was great, Truck was a little trooper all the way back to Oklahoma, Did exceptionally well on fuel. I don't have the exact numbers because all the diesel pumps did not offer receipts. It was so good though that by the time I got in to Arizona I was calling the Original owner because I thought surely the fuel gauge was broken. When I stopped near Needles California I was able to squeeze 8 gallons in one tank and less than 20 in the other. It has 2 45 gallon tanks and I guess it uses from Both at the same time because there doesent apper to be a way to switch tanks. Next stop was Williams Arizona where I camped on my newly purchased property near the Grand Canyon and drove around 2 days between the canyon/ flagstaff/ and the property. When I left Williams I filled up for around $150 however much that bought? And drove from there to Amarillo Texas where the hose only reached one tank so I filled it and drove home to Tishomingo Oklahoma and still had fuel. Leaving Amarillo The truck finally rolled over to 50,000 miles and was eating up highway. After I sale the enormous commercial compressor off the back this should be an excellent camper hauler with its 25 foot flatbed and all the locking truck boxes the original owner had mounted down both sides. I want to thank all the people of this forum who offered advise and detailed information about these trucks, because this was my first cross country trip in a Semi truck. Im now gearing up for the next truck, Thanks a lot Guys for all the inputs and advise.

I could never get any definitive answers from anyone and there are so many gray areas on commercial tags and all that. New Mexico wants you to buy a special permit to pass through and all that jazz, So I finally just decided to go to home depot in California and buy some 2 inch black sticker letters and spell out NOT FOR HIRE on both doors and blow all the weigh stations back to Oklahoma. I guess I must have been legal because they didn't send any Black Helicopters after me or anything. I have since learned that there may be a permit that I can buy that allows me to pass through what ever states its specified for. Its some type of moving permit or something, Just to move the truck from point A to point B one time. I will be checking in to this because I have more trucks to move. But this first one Im keeping for my camping and all that. This was my first time to drive cross country in a Big truck and it was really fun minus the weigh stations ordeal. The hills around Flagstaff and Albuquerque were exciting, No doubt some of you guys most likely blew by me at some time or another last week lol. I had a really good time though. Thanks for all the advice guys.
