Make sure the jake brake is off, watch the tach so you know when it's time to shift, and make sure you raise the engine rpms enough when you put it back into the lower gear.

You'll get it. It's definitely a repitition & time thing. It'll come....just give it a week or two. More you have to do it, the sooner it'll come.
What made it click for me was going through towns (stop, go), rush hours, and probably most.... up & down grades in mountains. Frustrating at first, but forces you to think....all while being aware of all the OTHER things you need to pay attention to at same time. Ahyyeee......
Congrats on getting out & good luck on test when you get back. It'll go by quick.hal380 Thanks this. -
Ran Boston to IN, IN to MI, then MI to NJ. Now running NJ to FL.
On way to IN, ran into instant white out on I-80 just short of OH line. Heard of jack knife ahead blocking way, and I exited to route around.
Exit complete sheet of ice, as was steep hill it ended at halfway up hill. Had to stop due to cross traffic. Made it most way through turn & all traction lost on hill.
Trainer took over & I held cars back safe distance, and with a little back up trainer was able to gain traction and crawl up hill. Was last shot before putting on chains. Able to reroute as intended with hardly any time loss. Turns out others spent 2/3hrs waiting out jack knife.
DEFINATELY learning through experience.Last edited: Jan 20, 2014

What a beatifull run.More than 24hrs early on load, so ok'd to drrop @ Fountain CA drop yard.Ran another load to Vista CA, and currently waiting to unload.Pre tripped for a run back to NY.San Diego area is awesome. Weather cannot be beat. Really hate to leave it.
-
Yuma AZ waiting to pick up at last load stop, then NY bound.
-
Made NY over 24hrs early, and lucky enough to get unloaded at reciever quickly.
Allowed us to run another load into PA same day.
Getting lucky dodging most of weather, but not bitter cold. But probably not for long.
May just be running into brunt of next ice wave. -
Sitting in Ft. Pierce, FL after dropping last stop in Orlando. AL & GA traffic after ice storm aftermath was big mess. All stops but one were early, and that one only slightly late.
While still a hell of a lot to learn, it's all definately becoming a lot more comfortable. Definately liking the job & lifestyle.
Next run, back to CA.jomar68 and JimmyBones Thank this.
