There are a lot of things about this unit that my husband likes, but here is what he does not:

He is unable to opt for different routes. His company routes uses practical miles...this thing has never routed that same way. Is there a way when plugging in destination that you can select different route options? Example: He was in Irwindale, CA, delivering in Hermiston, OR. The 710 routed him 5 N all the way up - his company routing was 5 S to 395 N to 6...(don't remember the rest).

It would seem there would be a way to look at different routing options. I have looked in the product manual and don't see a thing mentioned.

Also, he is not shown total miles for the trip when calculating the route. It only shows distance on that particular stretch.

Anyone have ideas/solutions for the above? It would be most appreciated.

Practical miles usually is zip code to zip code by the household movers guide. Some companies will route you a certain way to save miles, but what it does is increase driving time due to slower speeds and towns.

He may check in his TND - main screen/preferences/routing/freeway and make sure he does not have prefer freeways checked. I do not know what model or version he is on.

If he does not have this, then this will be comming soon.

He can always add Via points also.

As far as seeing only the 1st leg, the next update will allow all legs of a trip to be seen.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Sorry I did not get to you sooner. My modem quit assigning local IP's and they just finished replacing the modem.

I am checking on this. I have loaded more but not sure why you are at 50.

    Thanks,
    Mark

How would one know when they are about to purchase, if they (the merchant) have the latest model/version of the Rand Mcnally 710 Intelliroute and not an older one without the latest updates?

The latest model is the 510/710. You can verify by the serial number on the back.

Once you purchase the TND, then the TND Dock will install from your TND to your computer and you should run update to get the latest software version.

    Thanks,
