I gotta give it to Volvo on the whole the engine internals are typicaly solid so long as you keep after routine matienance intervals. I'm def leaning away from that.

It's a gasket more than likely.
Second shop backs up the first- let it fail.
PITA. I'll post the update when it fails.

Too many possibilities for them to point out what's actually wrong and we can't recreate the failure unless the truck is on a dyno and even then, it's pointless because whatever it is probably won't create a derate or if it does it will give me 2 hours to get to a shop but it's entirely more likely that I'll discover soot build up and be able to replace and repair the issue myself in the next 7 days.

Or with a little luck the axial bearing on the turbo is on its way out and I get a free turbo courtesy of my aftermarket warranty :)

When the verdict comes in - keep us posted.
Good luck. Hope it's not a hi dollar repair.
Be funny if it's a wheel bearing, or shock??
I had a front driver side shock once that the top bolt backed off
and at a certain speed it vibrated and made a weird hum. WTF?
Just found it by chance, by pulling sideways on it, then I put a longer bolt in it,
and same for the other side, and double nutted it.

You do know that most warranty will be void if you know of a problem and continue to drive causing continued damage

Noise disappeared. I'm thinking fresh o ring on turbo outlet v clamp needed time to heat, expand and seat. Probably the issue by the looks of it.
