Funny things you have seen at truckstops

If you have 400 big cam cummins, 3.55s and 12r24 tires you can push 100 pretty easy. My old man's 84 pete has 3.55s or maybe 3.36s and 22.5 lo pros and will do 85.

 

Do the math. With a .73 ratio top gear transmission on 11r24s and 3.55 rears you are running that engine over 2500 rpm to reach 100. Rev a big diesel up that high and let us know how it works out for you.

 

Then I don't know what the hell that thing has to have for gears then, I know it had tall 24s when he got it and was keeping up with my pickup at well over 90 on the way home.

 

It could have a double over drive .62 ratio top gear.
Im not saying those fast trucks didn't exist, I'm saying they weren't as common as the tall tales would lead you to believe. Most of the fast trucks had auxiliary transmissions. Think im terms of two sticks, not single stick 13 or 18 speeds.

I wasted a lot if money and effort believing those stories pulling out my tranny and rears to stick a double over 15 and 308s in my pete. Sure it was fast on flat ground when empty but made swift look good any time it saw a grade. Wasnt long before I was putting my old rears back under it.

 

I know his tranny is a 13 speed, doubt it's a double over though. Maybe it has more than 3.55s for gears, I don't know.

That was in Potts Camp, MS, on old 78 in town. About a half mile off the newer 78/now I22. Nanner pudding gave it away. She drew them in....

 

Not a truck stop, and wasn't funny at the time! It was 1998, I had a straight truck with a sleeper and flat bed, and I was hauling 55 gallon drums. Late in the evening, still daylight, I pull into a rest area in Hammond LA to get some sleep. A scantily clad "lady" with teeth missing, she was very skinny (emaciated), had greasy hair... climbs up the steps on my driver door and asked me if I could spare some money so she could buy some gas. She smiles really big, showing what few teeth she had, and they were rotten. I told her that the company didn't allow me to carry cash, so she hops down off the truck and asked me to let her know if I change my mind. She goes down the line, truck after truck with no luck. I grab my keys before getting in my sleeper and accidentally hit the button to arm the trucks alarm system... which makes all the marker lights flash and a couple loud beeps. Naturally, she was walking across the parking lot and hears the beeps, sees the lights flashing, and came arunnin!!! I'm freaking out, she hops up on my truck trying to get in, not knowing what to say, I roll my window down a couple inches and I tell her I have a couple dollars to spare.

She starts cussing me out and says "I don't know what you think you're gonna get for 2 dollars!!!!" then walked away, flipping me off for the world to see.
